Hi,
I'm fairly new to the uploading pix into a thread/reply thing. I've had NO problem using UploadIt in the past few days but today signed up for Ripway Web Host (the FREE account having 30MB of storage).

To take it through it's paces I posted a couple of pix in a reply to a Forum here at the KL Lounge. At first the pix appeared just fine in the reply but, in returning to the same thread later, all I get is the infamous "X User Posted Image" Also, it shows the outline of the pic but NO pic appears. I have given plenty time to load but nothing happens.
In addition, I see other threads where I posted .jpg using UploadIt and they are there with no apparent problem.

I created an index.html at Ripway after download of the the pix in question and quite frankly don't understand this part of the process too clearly. I seem to have created my own web-page however.

I also left a querie at their User Forum- Help but I think it's going to take quite a while for anyone to give me an answer.

Thanks for any advice,
mrlessk

Have you tried right clicking the pic in question and clicking "Show Picture."

Edit: So does your index page displays all the pictures?

Yes, I did right click where a pic should be to enable "Show Picture" quite a few times and this had no affect.

On your second question I.am, NO. All I see there is the "message" which I was able to create when first asked at the start of the setup process. When I go to "My Account" I see an unchecked box next to index.html which is my default web-page. But when I click on it, it's empty except for the message I mentioned.

In fact, this is all it shows right now:
"Forums and Links
My personal website for hosting picture and video files."

EDIT
OK, a little progress. I went to "My Account" and this time I opened the file where I have the pix stored. Then, I created a "new" index.html file. This time I see links to the pix but when I click on them I get "This page cannot be displayed" error message.

ALSO
Here is the link here (http://klboard.ath.cx/index.php?showtopic=88198) to a thread in question. On page 1, the 6th post down I have 4 pictures that I downloaded from Ripway. When I view it the pic on top, #1 is there ok. However, the next three #1 #2 and #3 are blank with just the outline of the pic and the Red X User Posted Image message. Out of curiosity, what do you see from your end? Do you see all four pix or not?

I am not sure how that site works but in order for the pics to be shown on the page they have to be linked.

Does the site links them automatically or you have to do manually?

Do they allow hotlinking of images from an external server?

But I think you said that the picture was shown before? so hotlinking has to work for that!

Can you post a thread here in which you posted a picture so I can have a look at it and brainstorm the possible reasons and solutions.

Edit: I just saw your link. Boy! are you reading my mind! :)

Edit2: I just saw them and it seems like those pictures dont exist on your host end. Are you sure you uploaded them right? I tried going to your server and the pictures dont even show there. Yup you do have a page with just Forums and Links as heading. You have to link each picture in your remote directory in order for them to show on the page. It seems like you dont have those pictures uploaded on the server.

Your path to images is
eg: http://home.ripway.com/2003-12/44474/NataliePortmanPose.jpg
This picture has to exist in your root folder. I believe 44474 is your ID there. So try uploading the pictures to your main/root directory. Also, use lower case for all the images and files. That is a common practice. Some linux/unix servers are case sensitive.

Yep. The only thing going on here is my lack of experience with this site's process. I can see in their "Help" Forum many people asking pretty much the same question "How come I don't see my pic".

Could be something with this. I see an option where it says I can transfer the 'jpg to #1) the folder I created, in this case it's KL Forums OR #2) one called "Root Folder"...
I'm going to spend some more time and read through the instructions and try a few things. I'll post back with my results. Either I've worked it out or I may still be stumped and need help.
Thanks much I.am

@ I.am
I'm almost convinced that the problem may be with the server at Ripway WebHosting. This was my first day using the service and prior to this had been using Uploadit and never had a problem with Uploadit.

Only time will tell as I continue to use and learn Ripway but, during the evening where the condition of NO pictures in a thread existed the pictures would appear a little later. Now I see that the ones in the link I referenced in this thread earlier here (http://klboard.ath.cx/index.php?showtopic=88198) have disappeared again after they loaded earlier...except for the first one of the four pics. They seem to be coming and going inexplicably.

Ripway is a little more complicated than Uploadit in that you can create files, subfolders, index, and text files so it may also be my lack of experience with this process...I won't rule that out.

Anyway, it's enjoyable learning new things and I will continue to work with Ripway to identify and eliminate the cause of this problem. Presently I am locked out for 24 hours since I have used up the daily allowance of 5MB. I'll try again when I can get back in.

Thanks,
mrlessk
