okay after debating w/ myself for several hours, i have decided that i am not classified as a "hardcore gamer" so i cross the 9600xt off of my list for christmas. as of now, i have a PCI mx-440SE (remember 2 things, PCI and the SE part) 64mb ddr. and its playing halo quite well at 800x600....and this is in my emachine low spec system....im planning on getting an 8x agp card for my new system so i was wondering what the gfx should be....i was planning on getting the fx5200...but becuz of the mixed reviews, some say its very good for the price and others says they cant tell the difference betweent the 5200 and their mx420 ;) . so should it be a jump in fps at all? or should i look into the 5600 or 9600....

P.S. its kinda funny how i help ppl about gfx card topic and here i find myslef asking the same question ;)

my personal favorite: Radeon 9600pro - nicely middle-ranged card, and since the 9600XT just came out, you should expect its price to drop

im thinking about a new graphics card myself, and so far the fx5600 has won me over, the main reasons are 1: i dont want to pay more than £150 for one and I have found one on ebuyer made by msi for £111 which has 256mb ddr ram :P and 2: every ati I have had in the past (about 3) I have had problems with i.e. conflicts, blank screens, crashing.

if you want to view the card goto www.ebuyer.co.uk (http://www.ebuyer.co.uk) goto the uk side, and type in 54508 in the search

how bout one of these (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=51440)...much better card imo...id try and get a 5600 ultra 128mb rather than a 5600 256mb if u really want to go that way...ebuyer have them as well here (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=54891)

yea...i live in the usa :P y is the ebuyer for the uk so much better then the one for the us? they have more selection....what is the currency for uk. hmmm wonder if the ebuyer in uk can ship over here. lol

but if i were to get a 9600pro, i might as well throw in another 20 and get a 9600xt....then if i were to get a 9600xt, i might as well try my luck w/ a 9800se and try to softmod it....see choices arent always a good thing <_< ;)

so is the 5200 really bad? might go w/ 5600 then

yea, well if it lag on cs then guess ill stay away from that card :P

i just read some interview w/ somebody from ati and he says that the 9600se will run hl2 and doom fine

basically my list is down to this....they are all 128mb

fx5200
fx5600 xt (strip down version on 5600)
fx5600
radeon 9200
radeon 9600se
radeon 9600
radeon 9600 pro

so tempting to put a 9600xt on the list as its only about 25-30 more......alksdjfoiefjalskdjfl;kadsjfl;kasdfjeoaijflk god damn it, y cant i be a millionaire....this would be so much easier

you know what i just decided....im gonna get 700 dollars from my mom in 2 month...so fuck the money issue....as long as it stays under 200.

so is the performance between 9600pro and 9600xt noticable or is it minimum

oh btw, is all 9600se 64bit memory bus?

Just get a 9600Pro or such, the difference between the Pro and XT is noticable, IF YOUR LOOKING AT A GRAPH OF THE FPS IN UNREAL TOURNAMENT.

You will be happy with either choice. I know an all in wonder 9600 pro is like 220 at newegg, so use www.pricewatch.com and look around.

Anything 9500Pro and up will run just fine for awhile to come.

i dont need an aiw, i alrady have a tv wonder card and i dont need vivo although i think my tv wonder card has it...so between the 9600xt and 9600 pro, u wouldnt notice the difference in ACTUAL gameplay?

do a Google search for '9600xt review', i think most benchmarks will compare 9600XT with 9600Pro

Rule1; If you are not a hardcore gamer who has limited funds, yet likes to play his games at a suitable level , there are only two cards really for it.
They are the Geforce Fx5600
and the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro/xt

Unless youve got bucket loads to spend on ultras, 9800 etc. then these games will cater for all future relases Dx9 games, for example Doom 3 and Half Life 2.

To be honest I think that sales of these cards will be insanely high, as they afre 100% fit for a medium 'paced' gamer which is more than the divisions of low and hardcore gamers

Sorry for the late reply, been away at grandparents.
Would of picked the Radeon 9600 as its superior to nvidias card i nearly everyway if you compare them.(looked at statistics).
Radeon nowadays releases upto date drivers etc. that actully work, and so does nvidia.
So, one can see that I would prefer the Radeon 9600. I can not say from first hand expeirence about the 5600 as Ive never owned one. I base my opinons from reviews, and since I bought the 9600xt recently it was dam worth it.
In one of your later posts you said you bought it, good for you, its worth it.

hehe if i look at statistic, then nvidia have better memory speed and is clocked higher.....but i heard ppl tell me ati card are optimize for dx9 and nvida isnt.

No... your missing the point. You can get the 9600xt and a 5600 at the same specifications, however the 9600 is better performance wise.......and both cards are capbable of handling Dx9
Get yo facts straight <_<
