To find out which song has the screetching noise before downloading...look at the quality of the song. if it isn't standard quality (for example 56kbps, 128 kbps, 192 kbps, 256 kbps are the common quality mp3 files) then do not download.

for example, if you download (Fountains of Wayne - Stacy's Mom) and the quality is 178 kbps, then do not download. instead download another one that has a quality that is 128 kbps.

sorry, i can't make it any more clear, if any problems, reply back to me. THANKS!

or DL files that have more than 5-10 sources :P

Or.....hell, just stick to mIRC filesharing (see siggy below)

There are some files that you could d/load in bad shape. If I were to ask I just delete it and find another source. Or preview it first. :)

320's becoming a popular bit rate as well, especially on Soulseek.

128 kbps is fair enough and that's common in all mp3 files. :)

If the mp3 is VBR, it will often show up as an average bitrate, which could be any number, even 178. Basically, if you don't want shit quality mp3's, don't download from kazaa <_<

Most of my mp3 files came from Klite. It's just a matter of patience. :)

To wrap it up.

128=useless. go buy the cd if this is the only bitrate you can find.

320=pointless space usage

192cbr=about the best filesize vx. quality ratio for a CBR encoded mp3. the standard among 0-day release teams.

~192vbr=best quality vs. filesize ratio there is. (with lame --alt preset). an exact copy of the original.

The two bitrates mentioned are rare nowadays. :)

well, i think we can all help by actually CHECKING the files we download, to make sure theyre good, DELETE the ones that arent. it pisses me off when i send a message to a user telling him/her of the bad file, and they go "oh, ok thanks". do peeps just download music just to be doing it? i only download what i want to hear. sorry for the rant. :flowers:
