My Friend is selling me a 20 Gig hard drive for 10 bucks. Should i buy it? Is it really safe to install it on my computer even after i format it. I currently only have 4 gigs with only 1 gig left, so i really need it. What would you guys recommend?

yeah, buy it
there'll be no problem with formatting it and using it again, they're designed to be formatted multiple times in their lifes

I guess if you dont have any space left then go about buying one if you dont want to upgrade your computer. I dont think your motherboard would give any problem for that much. But do check it.

Yeah unless you want to spend like $80 on a 80GB one which doesnt seem like you would use if you can even get around with a 4GB then 20GB for $10 seems like a great deal for u.

Just be sure to run diagnostics on it as soon as you get it. If there is any problem then return it.

IDE cable is always available in the market. But if your planning to use your 256mb drive in your old PC, why not only for OS backup. :D

There are other Linux distributions that are smaller.

I have 200 Gigs on two drives and still not enough for me :( because of all the dvd's, tv recordings and music videos i've stored. I don't know how you manage with 4 gig.

So my advice is to buy the 20 gig drive and explore the new possibilities it will bring. Just imagine it, you too will be able to fill your computer with crap like i do
