sorry to ask what seems like a dumb question...
but whats the difference between xp pro
and xp 2600 pro? or is there a difference?
(forgive me but i've been on xp home 4 ever, and dont really research OS's a lot)

i think by xp2600 pro ur talking about a processor lol.

An Athlon xp2600+ (its dumb how they called it XP)

and windows XP Pro is just windows XP home with some added security features and stuff for networking.

xp pro has several different build numbers.

when i did a search for the info, instead of typing in 'windows xp 2600 pro'
i just entered 'xp 2600 pro' and kept gettin athlon pages :lol:
i was thinking 'wtf?' so i posted a little prematurely :P

Build 5.10.2600 is one of the Corporate versions.

No activation, use the S# that comes with it to install, then you will have to change it 1 more time to get M$ update site to recongnize it so you can download if you want to.

This question was a bit confusing because there is an Athlon 2600 XP processor, although it doesnt have the 'pro' in the name.

Like rossco I thought you were refering to the processor as well and made the mistake of adding the 'pro'.

As for the build of Windows XP pro, the only one i've come across is the 2600, even if it doesnt say that in all the downloads.

I dont know if the ones that come with SP1 integrated have a higher build number.

yeah, sorry for the mislead, i'd forgot about the
athlon for a minute, main focus was the OS
and not really the topic title :)

but there are a couple of builds of win xp pro
(3-5 that i saw, cant remember)
few '01 versions and a '02 one, i think :unsure:
