You can use themes without installing style xp, just download the theme that you want and open it. There should be a 'shell' folder and a 'X.msstyles' file, just click on the style file and xp will load the theme as your current theme.
Atleast this works on my XP Pro system.

Or are you just wanting to use the themes that come with XP???

Hope this helps,
Steve

you don't need any program to change it like that
just right click your desktop and choose properties
then click the appearance tab
then change the scheme to whatever you like

ThemeXP (http://www.themexp.org/)
My way works with the Visual Styles (VS)
Visual Styles (1097) you will see it on the left side of the screen, just pick the one you like and do the method that I mentioned.

Edit: There is a black xp sytle (VS) further down in the 'Most Popular' section also.

if you want to add themes without installing crap software (themexp, etc) use the lightstar uxtheme.dll patch.

No need to install or patch anything if you only want to use the Virtual Styles.

edit: At least with XP Pro.

most user-created themes, however, do not come with a *.msstyle file
