hi, spare my noobish questioin but i was wondering if a FX5200 would be a good upgrade from my PCI MX-440se 64mb ddr, my mx440 has 333mhz memory clock and 250mhz core clock....and its only a 64bit memory interface.....so if i upgrade to the fx5200 128mb 250/400 128 bit memory interface...will i get at least double the performance? i only have about $75 to spare on a gfx card, i woulda have definately went w/ the ti4200 if it was dx9 support.

i've did the search on the forum on the fx5200....and it was mixed...some say it was bad while other says its fine...but i want to know if it will at least give me 2x the performance of my pci mx440

Dude..you and I have the EXACT same card. Mines PCI also. I just ordered a 9500Pro (lucky me) because I am building a new system. The fact that the 5200 is AGP will help alot and it will be faster and yes would be an improvment. It is far away from being a VERY VERY good card though...

Mr. Elmo

i dont need a verry very good card...all i need is some thing that will play all the latest game at medium setting at 800x600 or above....im not such a hardcore gamer....i want to upgrade becuz i get 20fps average on halo at 640x480 at lowest setting ;)

lucky bastard....getting a 9500 pro :P are you planning on sofmodding it?

oh btw, what should i expect to get (fps) in KOTOR or Halo at med setting at 800x600? jsut a rough estimate.

my specs are

amd 2200
512mb pc2100 ram
and runnign window xp

okay, i found out on pricewatch u can get a 9600se for aout 85 usd...would that be a better deal...givin the fact that it has a 64 bit memory interface, would that be a better card or worst then the 5200

Kunal

get the 9600, its faster

Mr. Elmo
12-24-2003, 04:09 PM

I have the Radeon 9600 card running on an AMD 2600XP with 512Mb DDR2700. You will be delighted to know that I completed Halo playing at 1024x768 with the extras all turned on, and it ran like a dream. Go for the Radeon, I can personally vouch for it.

yes but i mean the radeon 9600SE

abu, how does your fx5200 handles games like halo and Kotor, like what setting can you play it on and at what resolution

when i played halo, everything was on high. the max reso i went up to was 1024*x w/e #. i didn't try any harder. just a bit laggy at 1024, but everything else was fine. kotor ran perfectly on this card. at 1280x as well. hardly any lag at all. i like to play at 1024*745 or w/e the other # was. 1280 makes my head spin after a while, cuz all the textures are so detailed. i almost puked when i played max payne 2 at that resolution. it's a good card. for $45-50, that's a hard deal to pass by. think bout it

um... 119? it's not a bad deal. but if ur willing to spend that much, a 5600 is not a very good card. at least get a 9600 non pro for that much.

nvm about the pm thing. jsut do it here. easier.

but its a 5600 ultra at 400/800 speed. so to throw my budget out the window.........*deep breath* 1, 2, 3 *exhale* okay now, so your 5200 plays pretty much all the game at decent setting at 1024x768 and get playable fps? im not a fps freak so anything above 25-30 is playable for me.

that's a guarrantee. it plays ut2k3 at at least 50-70 fps with everything on high. it plays everything else that came out perfectly fine. didn't try deus x 2 yet on that card, cuz i just got it. but everything will run just fine, if ur not looking for the best card in the world. Ebay has some used ones for $55. mine's $45-50.

when you were playing halo, which pixil shader did u use? 1.1 or 2.0?? On ut, were those fps from battles seen or just walking around? oh and if i buy the card, is it like oem? or does it have the cables too.

my mx440 (its agp though) runs halo on 1024x768 with everything on HIGH at a good framerate. the game isnt that demanding imo. the only reason urs is so slow must be becuase its the pci version i guess. Im sure the 5200 will run halo perfectly flawless for sure.

i believe it's 2.0. but i havn't used that card in a while. i'm sure though everything was set on high, so pixel shader was prob 2.0

exactly. the 5200 is low end compared to the 9800, but it's a decent card

lolol

im sure i also have everything on high setting including the pixel shader (mine says high or low or none).

Are your video settings in Halo set to the 30fps sync?? mine runs very slowly when i go to anything else. Try doing that and see if it helps otehrwise get a better card which i am planning to do soon also.

it has 4x but the difference in fps between 8x and 4x isnt that much....probably under 10fps. the reason i have a mx440 pci is becuz i upgraded my board some months ago but didnt upgrade the card.

rossco, i have it a 30 fps lock but it gets to like 10fps when i go out door or get in firefight.

Mate, that might be the one you can very easily soft mod into a 9800.

I'll look for the exact card and see if thats it.

Hercules All-in-Wonder 9600SE is the one you can soft mod to a 9800, with extreme ease. Can somebody confirm this, I am pretty sure though.

most likely ups or fedex. i want my customers to recieve their stuff on time. shipping will be 5. so 55 will cover it. unless i feel generous and go with $45 for the card
