I already have a stick of Kingston 512 pc2700.
This is for a gaming system.
Is it worth getting another identical stick?
Will there be a noticable difference?
All information helpful.

yes, i'd say if you can afford it, it's worth getting another 512MB of ram

I doubt you'd notice very much difference, and by the time you really need 1024MB you'll want a faster variant.

i got an extra 250 points in 3d mark 03 just by adding 512MB of ram (and remember that 3d mark 03 is very heavily weighted towards the graphics card)

more ram does make a difference to gaming

Yes, but not too much. Very few games even nowadays will use up all of the remaining RAM from 512MB, unless you have shedloads of programs running at the same time. By the time having 1024MB becomes important, you'll want the faster RAM.

It all comes down to whether you want 100% supreme performance now or to plan your spending for the future.

If you have the money and want a good upgrade, and want to multitask big time, go for it, with that amount and a decent cpu you can have one hell of a load of apps running simultaneously

I will get a new 512MB stick soon, 700 or so megs of ram will rule :)

I was thinking of adding another 512ram soon as well,
Doe's it have to be the same make as the excisting make of ram?
(obviously both have got to be pc2700)

I dont think so, but I would try and get the same make anyway so they had the same timings etc...Ive only ever used same brands of RAM for my builds, so I dont know for sure

I forgot to add that I always multitask as well.

adding more memory never hurts anything...its like getting faster internet and free DVD pr0n

the question is not if it will hurt it its if it will help much and unless ur doing mager video editing (and want to run a ramdisk)its not likly it will help much save ur money for when u will need to have more memory in a few years or if ur a mager gamer and want too get a better video card it wiil do more for u then more ram will

btw if ur useing win 95\98 more memory will acualy slow u down and it will hurt ur performance

winXP will do the best with more memory as its bloatware and needs all the help it can get (just say no to winXP it ant nothin but eyecandy)

win2000 can take it or leve it

320MB PC100 Ram
thats all you need to know..my system sucks

I have NEVER had windows XP freeze OR crash on me. It has been flawless, and I love this O/S. I turn off all of the Eye Candy features, of course. ;)

since i read the XP eula
(somthing like MS has the right to write, modify remove or execute data on any system using XP without the end users consent or knowledge )
i wouldent touch it with a barge poll
thats why is stick to 2000

most of u guy have agreed to alow M$ to do wot they freakin want

also i hear if its performance u want, XP is not the way to go about it

@DWK
Eula never stated any thing like that in the 2000 agreement
meaning if MS tried any thing like that on a 2000
it would be considered Illegal

so if bill knocks on my door and tells my about my copy of windows
ill ask him how does he know and he will back off slowly

@bigdawgfoxx
DURRRR they might want there money back coz your XP might not be paid for!
ever thought of that?
