I'm using Avast Home Addition which is freeware. The great thing about Avast is it has P2P Shielding and scans Kazza Lite Downloads. Avast is set up to work with Kazza, Kazza Lite, Direct Connect, Direct Connect ++, Limeware, Bearshare, imesh. WinMx and Bit Torrent. :D
Check it out. Works great.

Actually, most AV's scan for viruses while your downloading it. Im using McAfee, and I tested it out by downloading a crack, and it detected a virus and stoped it.

Most anti-virus programs will do the job.
Everyone has a fav. I really like Mcafee, I also run thier firewall program. It all works great.

To each their own. I couldn't stand McAfee. It left so much crap on my computer and did nothing for me. Norton would go off at things that weren't viruses and then ignore the REAL ONES! For me, it's AVG all the way. I found the free version to meet my needs much more than McAfee and Norton ever did, and when I tried 7.0 Pro, I never turned back. AVG is light and catches everything quick. It's good for me because I do too many things I shouldn't be doing. lol.

Some anti virus don't scan MSN Messenger/Yahoo received files etc or P2P received files.

Heres the link
http://www.avast.com/

All I know is I have proof of P2P protection with Avast. It records the number of files scanned from K Lite. Nice to see some evidence your protected.

I use the PC Cillin Anti-virus program (http://www.trendmicro.com/en/products/desktop/pc-cillin/evaluate/overview.htm) (Now named PC Cillin Internet Security)*. The program was included in a Compact Disc received with the computer I am using. It is an excellent program and offers real time scanning and free virus definition updates. If you are downloading files from an internet location it will scan the files as you access them.

*I am not affiliated with Trend Micro (http://www.trendmicro.com/) (the company which produces this great software) in any way.

Actually, avast4 scans the download AS it is being downloaded. If anything is detected it stops the download and asks what you want done with it.

EDIT- avast4 Free for home use.

:) H+BEDV* a German antiviruz, scans automatically as you download, byte by byte.
it's free but it is not the best. Better than AVG...
I like NOD32 but it is not free and u can't get the full verss...
Basicly according to most of the comparisons, nod32 seems to be the most effective, followed by Kerspsky (can't spell) lol give these a try.

I would recommend that a user "purchases" anti-virus software from one of the leading companies. Other programs probably are not as good.

Sorry, but that's nonsense. I've had both Norton and McAfee antiviruses on my system, and I've found that AntiVir is better than both of them. It uses far less resources, and detects everything that the other two did. It has the 'active' guard feature that the others do, and that works very well and uses less system resources. It's also regularly updated, and updates are installed via a simple program integrated into the anitvirus. Of course it lacks some of the advanced features that the big name ones do, but that's not really an issue for me.

Best of all, you get all that for nothing. I don't see a downside.

Anything you purchase AV-wise will be HOPELESSLY out-of-date by the time you install it, so if you go that route you MUST update the AV software you just bought to even have the semblance of protection.

And if you're buying something like that AFTER getting a virus/trojan, chances are installing the AV software could be a nightmare. Some viruses ACTIVELY ATTACK AV programs to prevent being removed.
