I need help, not sure where to post
not sure where to go with this...transfer media to preserve material,
need to change this(analog) plastic film to a digital form,(hardware?)
at the same time trying to preserve or improve the quality(software).

did a search on board, maybe I missed it
anybody have any ideas as how to go about this project?

sorry, I didn't make it clear, these are not still photographs
but home motion pictures.

that is not possible unless you have a scanner to scan all your pictures....meaning you have to get htem develope first....if there is a way, not as many ppl would bother w/ digital camera

I use a film box, plug in a good camcorder (I use a mini dv) and the other end you put the old projector, hit play & recored
it then transfers the film to digital medium to scan/edit/enhance whatever

video capture card, if you can plug your camcorder straight into your tv and watch it that way, you can buy a tv capture card and play the film on your camcorder and capture it using your pc, depending on your pc specs.

it makes it as good as it is, unless you do some serious processing it witch your probably not going to get into
1 to 1 copy is easy better you have to work for it

using a video camera inside a box setup would be ideal. the darker the area in which your are recording, the less generational loss will occur.
you will also want to use a film projector with an audio "out" jack.
otherwise your audio will suffer if using a microphone. plus, you'll probably pick-up the sound of your projector.

ideally you will use a digital camcorder as this will save a step by converting your analog film into a digital format all in one process.

after recording into a digital format, it' a simple process of uploading into your computer, editing, authoring a DVD or creating a VCD.

yeah... that might be okay, though the quality would prolly not be great.

personally i think you should just do a little research and find a professional film/video service that specializes in transferring celluloid images to dvd through a telecine process, which is the "correct" way to do it-- the equipment is just way too expensive & complicated for the average person, so it's worth paying a bit of $$$ for the service if these movies are really important to you.

start looking... http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-...ies%22+telecine (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22home+movies%22+telecine)
