4.8 ... only because the book is 5/5, and this was missing some of the stuff from the book (the Grey Company, Aragorn looking in the Palantir *voluntarily*, Saruman, Imrahil, Beregond, the Houses of Healing, Eowyn & Faramir, the Scouring of the Shire {can see why they had to miss that one})... we'll see about the EE DVD (should have *at least* Saruman, the Houses of Healing, Eowyn & Faramir, or so I hear) ... :D

BTW: a great tolkien site: TheOneRing.net (http://www.theonering.net)

hehehe, the book kinda ruined it for me...did anyone else get fooled when the screen during the end went completely blank for a couple of seconds or blacked out several times? everyone was like, "what?!?!"

5/5

Considering beforehand i knew that certain bits had been cut i still came away thinking i'd just watched the best film of the year in my opinion.....now i know the dvd will be even better, with all the cuts from the book inserted...

4/5 Just because the other ones were better and the movie seemed to end about 6 times. It also seemed kind unbelivable that nothing really bad happend to the main charachters. The whole trilogy was still one of the best movies i've seen in a while though

EE DVD will be 5/5, no doubt! I read the books, pissed & moaned about the Scouring of the Shire for most of 2003, so it was out of my system when I saw it in the theaters. Awesome movie, all the "endings" were great. I will admit I cried at the end.

[BEWARE, SPOILERS BELOW ....]

Theoden and Gollum DIED, Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf and the Elves had to leave Middle Earth (Elrond, never gets to see his daughter again), Denethor became an over-cooked human marshmallow (worst done character in the movie!), Faramir had to see his dad do an impression of an over-cooked human marshmallow ...

Never the less, I do agree with you ... the movie did have a somewhat unrealistic tone at the end ...

I was just exaggerating, but i mean it almost seemed to end several times when they were on the rocks, when frodo was leaving on the ship, when sam got married, ect, and because of my state of mind at the time i wanted it to.
