sometimes when i dl a movie file it will start up IE and bring forth a SHIT LOAD of pop-up ads that not even pop-up stopper can catch. I have'nt been able to recognize what files may carry this type of unwanted mayhem. Any clues? Thanks in advance.
~ethan.
PS: whoever puts out those ad infested files should be killed. Period. :)

yeah, porn files and other non-porn files as well. I was surprised to see pop-ups generated during a non-porn dl so I guess nothing is safe now. damn.

*avi/*.mpeg files should be free from pop-ups (if they are true *avi/*/mpeg files anyway)

Heh, now that my PC was infected by a virus recently I have been running adaware, spybot S&D (my personal fave....the author of this program is a genius) AND liveupdate every other day with virus scan. I'm very paranoid now. lol. I run those as well as a couple of other ones. You HAVE to stay vigilant especially when you are a vid freak like I am. :D

Got another idea that compliments spybot and adaware, get spyware blaster. If you keep spyware blaster updated youi will never get a piece of spyware maybe except a tracking cookie. You think your paranoid, i run 1 router, 3 antiviruses, 2 firewalls then spybot, and adaware to clean the left overs up. I also want a hardware firewall as a dual layer of protection. Does that beat your Paranoia

that's the other one i run...spyblaster. Good one. Oh, I thought I was paranoid but now I stand corrected. :D Still, I simply can't tell which files have those damn pop-ups. Oh well. Pop-up stopper seems to catch them.
