okay, my mom's friends want me to build their kid (10yrs old) a computer....so i ask the kid what he want and he says....i want it to be able to run win98, and aim(yes, as in chat program).... ;)

so basically, since im looking for a new vid card, and a new case...i could use my old case and my current vid card and just buy some cheap components to make myself some money...heres what im thinking

mobo and amd 1700 = 70 w/ ground shipping (http://www.sonicparts.com/applications/search/itemdetails.asp?sku=MBC-HBA17X&sc=pi)

40GB 7200RPM = $45 (http://www.upgrade-solution.com/detail.cfm?show=yes&PID=668&add=yes)

256MB buffalo rams...pc2100 for $30 on newegg

ethernet card for under 10 dollars

and a 17 inch monitor for 115 dollars on newegg

cd-r/w burner for 30

am i missing something?

remember , he wants this to run WINDOW 98

so i think that should be more then enough....right?

oh, and this is a similar case to what hes getting....he should be happy w/ the light   http://myimages.fourvalve.com/lienle59/case.GIF

and hes getting my old MX440.....he wants it to be able to handle AIM so that should be enough...

i feel sorry for the kid....and the parent....hope they dont find out how crappy this ocmp is...but it shoud be find for surfing the internet and occasional gaming right?

yea, you cannnnnn but its going to be slugish....and he wants 98 for some reason...i said i could get xp on there and he said "no" ;)

im gonna be going over to his house tomorow to fix his problem w/ his comp...ill use that time to check how fast his comp is too...if it is faster then the 1700, then i will refuse to build their comp if they are only giving me $400.
