did that. got a bunch of confusing shit. thing is, i need to know wat rpm the intel fan runs at. cuz mines stuck at 2860. and it's not lower or goin higher. i want to know if it's supposed to go higher. cuz it's got a temp sensor plugged into the fan.

uhhhh whats ur cpu temp? cuz i've known/heard that intel (unlike amd hfs) run slower cuz the cpu stays cool any way...

my comps been on all day. for some weird reason, System Idle Process (in Task Manager) is taking up 99 of the cpu. my temp rite now is 42C running 1 dl and peerguardian (which isn't taking up any cpu power). i'm pretty sure the fan speed is variable, cuz there's a temp sensor attached to it. but i want to know at wat temp the speed will change, and wat hte max temp is. can't anyone find anything?

System Idle Process is the process that doesnt take any cpu at all lol.... its the IDLER....

i googled the hsf thing but i cant find shit... i dont think intel gives info on that lol

btw..... check cpu temp with AIDA32 (on lamsey's site....btw thx again lamsey :) )

Abu, I can't help you there, but I wanted to congratulate you for your ebay skills.

If you take your cooler apart there is usually a sticker on the fan that has info. Sometimes the speed is there but most not but you can get the fan model number and search the internet for speed info.

With the temp sensor, its probably set to go up in RPM's at a certain Temp.

Can you change the circuit that all that stuff is on, the fan, and thermistor, etc, I know I can do that with my Volcano 11+,, but then again i use a speed control with it. But, the speed control is nothing more than a potentiomemter.

not quite sure wat u mean. but i think the rpm goes up, but wat i want to know is how far and when does it go up

i found this from cyberpowerpc.com
http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/highendsys...telfan_spec.htm (http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/highendsystem/intelfan_spec.htm)
i'm having doubts that the fan goes up to 5000rpm. and it doesn't say at wat temp either. arg

Does your heat sink look like that? My Celeron Heat sink, (it was 2.2, Im assuming same one for the P4's, looked a bit different.)

Your fan can probably go higher, but it only goes higher when the temp raises, (which is why the thermometer is there.)

Abu, use a blowtorch on it. If the fan hasn't speeded up after 5 minutes, take it back, it's probably faulty.

un huh. u do that. prob is. my cpu idle temp is rising. it used to be around 34-36. now it's 37-39. not too much, but still high. i need a good hsf to cool it down. i might go and get a good hsf. btw, anyone wanna give me a guide as to how to remove this heatsink and not damage anything? thanks

Umm, if its the Intel HS/F im thinking of, just flip the two levers the other way, the remove it heatsink and fan......

Yeah, look at my sig that my Volcano is running, although those are probably +2 from what im getting now that the thermal paste has settled.
