have you deleted your recovery partition?
if you havent, you can still use the recovery feature in compaq
pretty much the same thing

open up 'my computer' and look at the drives letters
if you havent renamed em, it will resemble:
3 1/2 Floppy (A:)
Presario (C:)
Presario_RP (D:) <------- recovery partition :)
etc., etc.
thats to see if you got the partition
(and you cant really delete it by accident or anything)
but to do the recovery, go to start menu>all programs>compaq>
compaq pc tools>compaq system recovery
then follow the on-screen instructions :)
hint: choose 'non-destructive recovery' if you got files you dont wanna lose
may not keep em all, but you wont lose all of em
and may have to re-install some apps afterward
read up on it a little, i think if you move stuff you wanna keep into
'my documents' you wont lose em at all

IF YOU HAVE bought it from Compaq ask then for another one.
What machine - operating system (that came with it) do you have.
what can i use instead
What you want get the drivers for your machine (ALL) get your O/S make a bootable cd (unless its XP)with the drivers on it too and away you go.

Just call compaq and ask them to send you recovery CD's. thats what I did. They Fed-exed them over night at no cost. All Idid was tell them that I started to make my recovery CD's and never finished, and they rushed me out 6 cd-roms the next day.
