View Full Version : Want A New Midrange Card? Considered Ati?

atiVidia

nVidia has released their new 5900xt (some call it a 5900se).

look for reviews, as this card fucks the 5700ultra and the 9600XT up their tiny little 4-pin molex connectors.

why is this card so good? three words (or 2 words and a number): 8-pixel pipeline

this card beats the 9600xt in almost EVERYTHING BY AT LEAST 50% whats more, its priced at 200 bucks.

one last thing, the cooling system for this chip couldnt be better. its actually a 1-slot solution on most cards!!! (perfect for shuttle SFF and AMS E-Cube owners!)

cards it lays down the shithole: 9700pro, 9500pro, 9600xt, 5700ultra, 5900 (non-pro)... you get the picture

search for it. not sure if its out yet but if it is ATI better have a counter otherwise they just got dethroned from their newly-achieved position

actually, heres a good review (http://techreport.com/reviews/2003q4/geforcefx-5900xt/index.x?pg=1)

There is no way a 5900SE beats a 5900. Its supposed to be worse. I also doubt it "fucks" a 9700Pro

And it doesnt beat a 9800XT, so they still got there position.

well said. look at the price difference and the history of nvidia card compared to ati's. the 9700pro is a very high end card. not as high as 9800xt but still pretty high. this new card is an enhancement from an older model. no way it can beat the 9700pro. where do u get these stats? from ur head or from actual tests?

this is a midrange card not an enthusiasts card

On the whole first page of benchmarks the 9600xt whoops ass. On the gaming benchmarks the 5900SE does better.

THERE IS NO 9700PRO, 9500PRO, or 5900NON PRO ON THERE. HOW CAN YOU SAY ITS BETTER WHEN THEY DONT COMPARE THOSE CARDS.

if this is a midranged card, how can it beat a high end card like the 9700pro?

bigdawgfoxx
12-28-2003, 05:38 AM
Yeah, which you say it DID beat, but there are no benchmarks that have the 9700Pro in it. The 9700Pro WHOOPS this things ass I can tell you without any benchies

Get the 9500Pro, or 9700Pro, only $30 bux more then the 9500 pro. $230 on newegg. GET THE 9700Pro.

I still want to know how he thinks that card beats a 9700Pro and 9500Pro and a 5900non pro...did he just make that up?

OMG the damn thing has 4 Pipelines you dumbass.

eVGA's GeForce FX 5900 SE
Don't let its name fool you. eVGA's GeForce FX 5900 SE is very much a 5900 XT. NVIDIA's partners are free to name cards as they please, and most will be using the GeForce FX 5900 XT name. All GeForce FX 5900 XT cards should share the same core and memory clock speeds, and similar board layouts and memory configurations. Here are the specs on eVGA's GeForce FX 5900 SE:

GPU NVIDIA NV35
Core clock 400MHz
Pixel pipelines 4
Peak pixel fill rate 1600 Mpixels/s
Texture units/pixel pipeline 2
Textures per clock 8
Peak texel fill rate 3200 Mtexels/s
Memory clock 700MHz
Memory type BGA DDR2 SDRAM
Memory bus width 256-bit
Peak memory bandwidth 22.4GB/s
Ports VGA, DVI, composite and S-Video outputs
Auxiliary power connector 4-pin Molex

WTF does "XT" mean? seems like every once in a while, several companies all jump on a bandwagon by using the same abbreviation on their products--

like Nvidia named their budget cards "MX," then Macromedia named their 2001/2002 series of programs "MX," then Logitech releases mice with the abbreviation "MX"... what the hell is MX?

now it's "XT"... i can't wait to see what other XT stuff comes down the pipe...

*The NV35 graphics chip renders four conventional (color + Z) pixels per clock, but is capable of performing 8 operations per clock for Z pixels, textures, and stencil and shader ops.

and some of the ones i found on newegg have 8 pixel pipelines

Heres a gainward one....

Specifications:
Chipset: GeForce FX 5900SE
Memory: 128MB 2.8ns 256-bit DDR Memory (350MHz clock - 700MHz effective)

its not a 5900XT can u get that in ur head? its 5900 SE SE SE SE SE SE on the contrary of ati's "version" of XT, nvidias SE (or xt, if its easier for your brain) is the downgrade of the 5900....although it runs just as fine

your point being.....

just cuz of the card being an "se" doesnt mean it cant beat the 5900...and besides, it only beat the thing in some test, and the diff. wernt even noticeable

GeForce FX 5900 XT core: Despite the early rumors regarding GeForce FX 5900 Value, NVIDIA’s GeForce FX 5900 XT GPU is not a crippled graphics core. In fact it boasts all the features of the more senior GeForce FX 5900 chips, including their 256-bit memory interface. And since the core clock remains at 400MHz, fill rate is identical with the GeForce FX 5900 128MB.

That’s why it baffles us why NVIDIA and its board partners opted for the “SE” designation for these cards, ripped straight from ATI. Enthusiasts have come up with all kinds of clever names for these ATI boards; we’ll stick with the censored versions of Stupid Edition and Slow Edition. Enthusiasts know to avoid the letters SE like the plague, but in the case of the e-GeForce FX 5900 SE, we’re looking at quite a capable card here.

from the review ;)

If you guys haven't noticed, you can't seem to find a review that says a card is bad.

Basically reviewers say everything is good because they get free stuff and promise to and hope to get more in the future.
