How long will a CD-R approximately be readable if it dont get scrached and isnt exposed to sunlight?


i wasnt quite sure if this is the right place, if not move it please. :)

approx time if stored at the right temp and not in sunlight is FOREVER

i believe it was 400 years. i read that in an article on some computer magazine. might be 300 or 500. but it'll last

I bought and burned My first cd-r in '98 and it still works :)
They will last for a long time.

btw this is the correct forum for such questions.

I think that it is somewhat dependent on what you have burned onto the disk.

A Britney Spears CD I believe, will rot from the inside out in under 3 years....

I remember watching The Screensavers on TechTV where they were talking about a guy that did an expirment where he bought some CD-r's back in about '98, burned data too them, and put them in a dark cabinet, for one straight year.

He took them out, and some of the data was already corrupted.

Anyway, just remember to buy QUALITY CD's, from quality companies like, Sony, etc, you will pay more, but the CD's will last longer.









Oh btw, a side note, data on Floppys lasts only for about one year before it starts getting corrupted.

dont put cds on dark cabinets :P

you do have to remember that the cds back in 98 were REALLY bad quality......

How often do you rewrite data on them?

I wouldnt trust data on a Floppy for more than a year, is all im saying.

I try to remember at least once a year to check the ones I need just in case but I see your point which also reminds me that once a year is a coming shit have about one hundred too,well nevermind something to do on a rainy day. :D
