Slow start-up when using Norton Internet Security 2002?

If you are using Norton Internet Security 2002, and are experiencing slow start-up of XP.

i.e. you can see the desktop with icons etc. but it takes 30-60sec before you
can start using the computer.

1. Click on start buttom.
2. Select control panel
3. Open “Network Connections”
4. Under “LAN and High-Speed Internet”, right-click on your “Local Area Connection” and select “Properties”
5. Under “General” tab, select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and select “Properties.
6. Select “Use the following IP address:”
7. Under “IP address” enter following : 192.168.0.1
8. Under “Subnet Mask:” enter following : 255.255.255.0
9. Click “Ok”

I was just about to ask.....
i have been wondering about this problema for a while now

Does it also work even if your changing IP(switching modems) alot?

Anyway ill find out soon enough.

I just tried it - got page error
i renewed my IP 3 times restarted etc
Still - Page Error

Is it me or did i miss something :huh:

That really shouldn't have an effect on Norton Internet Security...
And not only that, if one who does this has a dynamic ip, they'll run into problems, just like Zedaxx did

" 192.168.0.1 is not a valid IP address to get to the internet. It can only be used behind a NAT device.
That IP address doesn't go anywhere. Its only valid for local neworks."

Glad someone else was puzzled. That range is reserved for LANs, so I didn't think it could help. I used NSW for several years but quit because it's a resource hog, and most of its functions are performed by Windows, without all the bells and whistles. It installs dozens of programs, most of which I could never figure out the utility for, and, when I did need some of the advanced functions - they didn't work. Capping it all off, you've just about got to reformat in order to get rid of all the debris - or get a good registry cleaner. I use NAV and like it, but, to me, NSW is worse than useless.

Disable NIS on startup. Start->Run->Msconfig->Startup.
