Ok I seriously just can't win. I join the struggle to find a good vid card, yet find out my mobo is only 4xAGP :( . So now I shall search for a new mobo. I was told to get this (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-131-455&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=1) , so how does that look? Anything cheaper that offers good specs is fine to haha :) .....

Theres prob some cheaper boards with the same features or maybe even more. I just trust the Asus name...thats what I bought with my 9700Pro.

the differences between agp 4X and agp 8X in the real world are small

what video card are you looking at?

Well, DWk pointed me in the direction of this (http://shop4.outpost.com/product/3699455) , and I was also looking at this (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-131-199&depa=1) , but I'll probably go with the nVidia, but who knows....

I just saw this (http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030604/radeon_9800-04.html#unreal_tournament_2003) I wasnt looking for this..but it compared 8X to 4X...not much of a diff

Then I see this (http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030912/half-life-03.html) the 9600Pro beats the 5900 Ultra almost...I think it depends on the game u play alot...Both cards are very good.

I Cant find anything that finds comparisons on that card. I like the ATI name..I would go with the ATI anyways..as I did

yep, the differences are extremely small

edit: between the agp 4X and 8X

Wow, so thats a relief, so your saying that the difference between 4x and 8x is really that small? Also, if the 9600Pro beats the 5900 Ultra almost, and I'm looking at the 9700PRO + the 9500PRO for ATi, wouldn't that make the ATi cards the cards to get? ME SO DAMN LOST!!!!

bigdawgfoxx
12-30-2003, 06:13 AM
I would go with the 9700Pro. Thats just me a TON of people will say nvidia..even tho I thought this whole board was ATI bias...oh well. Ati usually wins at higher resolution with filtering. Plus the red card looks so fucking bad ass in my blue lit case B)

opivykid
12-30-2003, 06:16 AM
Uh huh... Alright well it's better that no ones biased though, therefore you get better advice........ So my last question is this, is it worth updating the mobo?

Keikan
12-30-2003, 06:18 AM
Asus = good mobo

you need a 4x graphic card? Get yourself a geforce mx400? something like that

opivykid
12-30-2003, 06:19 AM
I'd rather update the mobo than get an older card though.

bigdawgfoxx
12-30-2003, 06:19 AM
an 8X graphics card will run fine on 4X

Just get the card for now and then if you want to get the mobo later...do

I would reccomend the mobo that smart guy recommended. altho im drunk so dont remember who it was ;)

YOU can get a new card and run it at 8X agp no problem.

stick with your current mobo and get the 9500 pro :)

bigdawgfoxx
12-30-2003, 06:23 AM
he can get a 9700Pro for $30 more. And its quite a bit better.

opivykid
12-30-2003, 06:25 AM
So get the 9500PRO insted of the 9700PRO. I really couldn't care less about the price difference, I'm just looking at better-ness haha. Also, what about the nVidia card?

bigdawgfoxx
12-30-2003, 06:26 AM
The 9700Pro is alot better for only $30. I would get that. Actually..I did lol

opivykid
12-30-2003, 06:27 AM
Haha alright then, but what about the nVidia?

bigdawgfoxx
12-30-2003, 06:31 AM
I duno..I'm an ATI fan..cuz I like red and not green. Let some other people respond about nvidia and provide some links to benchmarks that compare the 9700Pro to the 5900. I cant find any.

Alright, thanks for your help though!

if you've got the money, go for a radeon 9800 pro (or xt), but they're pretty expensive

Ya thats waaaaaaaaay out of my price range.....

DAMNN 3rd gen great link.

The 9700Pro beats the 5900 in every test that I saw and I looked at like 7 of them.

opivykid
12-30-2003, 06:50 AM
Indeed it did. Interesting. Also, when the 5900 beat the 9700PRO those very few times, it really wasn't by much at all. I really shall reconsider....

opivykid
12-30-2003, 06:56 AM
Ok, I guess I'm back to ATi, with the 9700PRO. Just which should I buy out of these? (http://castle.pricewatch.com/search/searchmc.idq?cr=9700&qc="9700"*+AND+%40ctd+37&i=37&ct=<%CT%>&c=Video+Cards&mi=N&m=N)

I would get the Powercolor one. Its $219. Thats the one I got and it is Awesome. Comes with some decent software too.

Also...DWK sure was talking a LOT of shit in the other thread about how benchmarks dont lie...well they sure dont and as in the link adam gave you...ati won.

opivykid
12-30-2003, 07:10 AM
Ok then Powercolor it is. DWk seems really smart though, and seems to be a nice guy, so I still respect him, he just probably never came across that page, so you can't talk shit about him just because of that..

bigdawgfoxx
12-30-2003, 07:15 AM
Im not, I'm just saying even he says benchmarks dont lie! lol

BTW, 3rd gen, Virtual body, and Clocker are basicly the kings in this place, incase you didnt know.

i'm flattered that you think that, but i don't think i could have myself put on that list (and no, i'm not being modest)

i'd say that clocker, lynx, virtualbody, lamsey and adamp2p were the hardware kings at the moment (i hope i didn't leave anyone out...)

Also note that Nvidia's drivers for the FX series are HORRIBLE right now, (the new detonators are starting to bring things back in check though.) The cards really arnt doing that well in DX 9 tests, because, like I said, the drivers for DX 9 compliant games are just bad right now.

Ya most definitly, clocker is a genius, and so are the rest of the people. Thanks for all your help everybody!!!

EDIT = :o horrible typo

just wondering how can you trust on a benchmark based on a game that isnt even out (or doesnt even have a GOOD alpha, beta, demo.... whatever)

Also...DWK sure was talking a LOT of shit in the other thread about how benchmarks dont lie...well they sure dont and as in the link adam gave you...ati won.

homey.... i thought the problem was settled? i see you really dont change ur manners at all. What kind of SHIT was I talking about, please.... I dont consider myself an Einstein type of guy.... but I'm not dumb enough to blurt out BS. So please.... get off my back and stop the flaming. If you want to flame, my pm inbox is quite empty.... just good luck with me reading all the childish stuff.

as for the link 3rd gen provided.... (http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/index.html ) yes I have seen this.... but wasnt interested in posting this cuz the selection of cards is 2 wide for your search. It is a good article and bechmarks, nonetheless.

and I REPEAT WHAT I'VE ALWAYS SAID, i dont dislike ATI and am not against it, and I SURELY dont recommend against buying it.

btw, opivykid.... how much do you actually play games? cuz there are several cheaper options than directx9 cards.... for example the g4ti4600 (it has 8 pipes and one HELL of a chip)...

well later

I wasnt saying anything bad about you. I was just saying that you were strongly saying benchmarks mean everything. Didnt mean to be mean....Sorry.

dont frame my info as SHIT just cuz u dont like it... or just cuz you like adam's info more...

The thing is though is that I do play a shitload of games on my computer, so I will be willing to spend the $$...

So the fight is still on, the 9700PRO, or the nVidia 5900, although the info in here (http://www20.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/index.html) points to the ATi...
