That rich neotheone guy should buy out all the clockable AMD processors and sell them at better prices than AMD's retailers do.

Oh yeah, I'm getting a 64-FX so it doesn't matter to me.

It is a bit bitchy though, their fault in the firstplace. They make themselves a brand name for clockable processors, then shut it out.

lol. amds used to be the best ocing cpus and many ppl here say it's better than pentiums. now, without ocing available, intels will rule the cpu market. lol. but i doubt amds will be totally unocable. someone will find a way.

but im sure ppl is going to figure out someway to unlock it....like that pencil trick...but that is kinda dumb....the only reason y most people would buy amd is becuz of its ocing potentials....now all thats gonna go away and ppl will gear toward p4......

P.S. DDDDAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMNNNNNNNNNNNNN $700 for a processor.....you can build a decent gaming system for that one processor

the 700$ is indeed referenced to the FX-51, or whatever its called.

*shrugs.

yea i know hehe.... but actually pentium's are oc'able as well...and pretty reliable.... the difference is that ppl buy amd for gaming....and gaming is what requires oc'ing (or is mostly for that)

Thats really fucking gay. Their sales will go down im sure..Oh well I got a 2500..so im good for now.

b4 this happened, i was thinking bout an amd for my next rig. guess not anymore. i can still oc the p4 pretty high. from wat i heard, amd sounded pretty good to me, but not anymore. sigh

oh well, for the price of a p4 2.4 you can stil get a barton 3000+ so amd is still good in my book....unless they decide they want to raise the price next.

Why does this come as any surprise?
People have long known about the great OCability of AMDs and who would buy a XP3200+ when, for a third the price, you could get a Barton 2500/2600+ and clock it beyond the 3200's stock speed?
Just look at our own small little HardwareWorld.
Someone asks about a good chip and the automatic response is "Barton core 2500+".
I can't remember ever seeing a recommendation for a Athlon 3200.
Ever.

The guy they were interviewing was probably drawn and quartered by AMD's Public Relations dept. for not being cagier in his responses, but the underlying business thinking doesn't shock me at all.
So the free ride is over...temporarily. As pointed out earlier, it's only a matter of time before some bright lad/lassie figures out how to circumvent the multiplier lock or AMD realizes that they may be shooting themselves in the foot and starts releasing "Special Edition" ( read: unlocked) versions of their chips.

Well put clocker, however I have seen some recomendations for an athlon 3200. lol

the 3200 is cheaper and comparable to the p4 3.2. the p4 does do better in some cases, but ocing is limited. the 3200 is over ocable just like the other amds, but not so sure anymore. but i might still get an amd if ocing is made available again

Just look around for unlocked 2500+'s

Or 2100 B's, or 1700's, the really good ones.

All of the above can get up to nearly 2.4Ghz, on air. If you get the right stepping.

i wonder if my 1800 t-bred can go that far :D

btw... its 1.53 on stock.... so that would be over a gig of clocking....lol i dont think thats much possible unless u use the super liquid nitro cooling system ;) :o :D

the 1700+ is 1.47Ghz I believe.

But its all in the chip.

i should get extra cooling tho lol.... 34 for cpu on stock hsf is fine by me.... but if i wanna up it a lil...i should get something else..... either way, i would have to get another case, since this one isnt made up for modding (well at least it has mount holes for a rear case fan lol....)

1. You stock HS/F will do fine for moderate OCing. I had my barton OCed 500Mhz at it was in the 50C's. I wanted lower, which is why I got the Volcano11+, but 50's C is perfectly fine.

2. know how you feel about the case, mine only has room for on in front, and one in back. Thats actually why I was looking at cases today on tigerdirect, and newegg.

Those cheiftec dragons do look very nice, great tower.

yea im not sure about the fan in front cuz it doesnt have fins or anything.... its completely covered

check here (http://www.nolimits-pc.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=152)

oh well.... my priority is a vid card not oc'ing or cooling :D

That place has too little selection, and is overpriced.

Use a place like newegg.

The aspire X-dreamer cases are good on that site for sub 60 dollar cases.

The Cheiftec dragons are good for above 60.

breaking news Sherman reveled as adviser of amd "it works for p2p surely screwing over the people that support you is the best idea"

I have to agree that this isn't terribly unexpected, However, It really should never have happened, I know from a marketing point of view this seems the right stand to take, but they should check out the AMD community first.
I've been an AMD fan for a while, cheaper processors and very overclockable.
(btw, I'm running a 2500+Barton, and it's oced to beyond 3200)
The reason AMD became popular was this reason, up until AMD started this Intel was king, all other processor companies couldn't even compare, but AMD came in with all their cheap processors, and was able to get a hefty community built up around them.
Now to turn their backs on the same community that help to make them a viable business, is almost treasonous. I'm sure as stated earlier, that a work around will be found, but if AMD goes and turns its back on us, I will stop recommending people buy AMD system. Why should I recommend something to others when the company manufacturing them, had disrespected the community I'm a part of.
If AMD persists in this course of action, it will ultimately hurt their business instead of help.
