pirates was great! but i lacked visual and the scenery wasn't that good either. the battle at mina terith (is that how u spell it?) was amazingly well done. looked mind-boggling on the big screens

I agree with almost everyone; I didn't have to think twice about this topic at all. Without a doubt it's LOTR - ROTK; the fact that it was too long didn't bother me one bit. Matrix Reloaded, Finding Nemo & Pirates of the Caribbean were pretty good too. B)

As much as I love the Matrix Movies, and everything they stand for, I had to give it to ROTK. It was absolutley stunning.

01-03-2004, 12:47 AM
Without a doubt Pirates Of the Caribean!

LOTR Return of the King is imo not a movie but 1 part of a trilogie....
But is a very close second B)

On a whole different type of movies i thought Rabbit proof fence was the best filmhouse movie... If your a bit into more serious movies this is a one to watch.

it will probably win best movie and best actor Sean Penn yet it will be UN noticed here

Agreed. I don't know WHY anyone is hyping these films so much. Everyone I speak to say it's ok but nothing special.

My vote goes to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Of the one's listed definitely ROTK - a worthy finish to a great trilogy by the next recipient of best director at the oscars.

But my pick was Final Destination2 as that had some scenes that blew me away, and were totally unexpected.

For those that doubt the worthiness of ROTK, quoting Yahoo movies it has grossed just over $290 mill so far after 3 weeks (with POTC on $315 after 26 weeks) and The Two Towers grossed $341 mill.

mystic river isnt mentioned because tim robbins and sean penn are both lowlife communists. listen to some of the comments they have made about america and our president.

i did watch the movie though, even though i hate both of them and it was pretty good.

Hmmm, this is a tough decision. This year was an exceptionally good one for movies. Sure some films that were expected to be awesome, turned out to be quite dissapointing, while others just blew our socks off. Let me see I must say that both ROTK and Kill Bill were great rollarcoaster rides of films. Also great were Mystic River, Master and Commander, and the Last Samurai, but If I had to choose a 'best' film of 2003 then...Im going to go out on a limb here and say Lost in Translation. Maybe Im just a romantic sap...but it honestly was one the most endearing films Ive seen in quite some time.

I voted other, I was going to say Love Actually was my fave, but I think it was released this year here... I didn't think it was the greatest movie, but it was much better than I thought, and I almost like hugh grant. :o

T3 was crap, it was just another lame action movie. ROTK was great, i went to see all three again at a amovie marathon... after 10 hours, I was still loving it. Nemo was funny, and my girlfriend's vote goes to it without a doubt.

Pirates of the Carribean was great as well, and would be close to my other favourites. SWAT was good, but it was just a no brainer action movie like T3 when it comes down to it.

I'm a few hours till finished on Kill Bill, so I'll see what it's like when it finishes downloading.

The Quiet American.

i saw it and liked it. it used brendan frasier's happy-go-lucky, boy-next-door image very well as a disguise for his character's conniving nature. and for a story that was written in the 1950s, it's still surprisingly relevant to the politics of today. but it's not a movie that i'd need to watch more than once, 'cause a convincing political/moral lesson doesn't necessarily make for enduring entertainment.

my favorite was Pirates Of The Caribbean, with Lost In Translation and Kill Bill Vol 1 running a close tie for 2nd place.

Merci Pour Le Chocolat was a favorite of mine, as well. actually a 2002 film, but i don't think many people had any chance to see it in the U.S. until the dvd came out in 2003.

My favorite movie isn't listed and it's quite a pity for such great comedy!!

Anger Management is my personal favorite!

Great fun the whole movie along, one of very few comedies (along with freaky friday) to be able to make you REALLY laugh on the floor the whole playtime.

It is also a movie who brought some fresh air in the times of refilming movies and producing suites.

Just my opinion

Matrix Revolutions, LOTR the return of the king had nice action, but the story left me dissapointed, perhaps cuz there isn't a book of the matrix?

but anyway there's a lot of time since i wathced both of'em and i couldn't find good quality versions of those

i voted rotk but pirates of teh caribean was a very funny film in which johny depp was a star. Orlando bloom proves his ability to play any role under teh sun. and kiera knightly whom i saw on a tube in london with her mum, awww, proved that she can act but it will be a slightly irritating performance.

also bad boys 2 was an unexpectedly good film, i didnt see it in teh cinema but i wish i had. i thought it would be very bad but it turns out they were good bad boys.

i don't know when this movie came otu but i watched it in 2003 so i am giving it my vote. It is a Brazilian movie, they speak Portugese or something with english subs and i say this movie is just as good as Godfather or Scarface, but hey since it's an all black cast............. CITY OF GOD or CIDADE DE JESUS or something like that i got the screener off Klite and i am gladly sharing. This is the best gangsta movie i've seen in a long ass time!

CITY OF GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Despite the critcal lashing it got both the matrix films i thought were awesome.

ROTK was good but way too long esp the ending it made me cringe the cheesiness of it. (btw what was that all about?)

X2 T3 and bruce almighty deserve honerable mentions.

Kill Bill got my vote, I'd been waiting so long for new Tarantino. ROTK a close second.

City of God was amazing, prob third on my list and Finding Nemo was really good too. I also really liked Lost In Translation, Mystic River and Phone Booth.

SWAT was a bit disappointing, was hoping for better considering the cast, and Master & Commander was boring.

Matrix Revolutions was rubbish, as was Terminator 3, but X-Men 2 was great, much better than I'd expected.

lord of the rings are teh worst movies ive ever sat through, i saw teh first one in theatres, hated it, then my art teacher made us watch it and choose a cahracter to critique, i hated that movie SO MUCH!

Yea Lord of the rings return of the king wasnt all that. I enjoyed the first two, but somehow all the hype got to me I think. Either that or I was simply not in the mood for lotr that night, havent seen it again which I maybe should to be able to make a more informed judgement...

Anyway rambling aside, on top of my head it would have to be Lost in translation or matchstick men (Im sure there are others that are probably even better, but if there is I cant remember them atm).
So definetely not lotr then ;) :P
