Overnet Lite

I've mentioned in earlier posts that I were going to create my own installer for Overnet. And so it is, there are NO adware/spyware applications included.

Yes, its done. I hope you'll like it! ;)

Let it be said, there are no differences in Overnet itself, Its just Overnet Pro the second the installation is complete.

I could imagine that Lycos will disable my account pretty soon, so I decided to share the file on eDonkey & Overnet. If you can make HTTP/FTP mirrors or help sharing the file it will be greatly apreciated.

Nope, eMule is a good p2p application. in fact through the eDonkey2000 Hybrid the eDonkey & Overnet networks are merged. I preffer to use Overnet since I get a lot better download speed in less time there. But eMule is great too for older things, incl. eMule can't connect directly to the Overnet network. The eMule developers would need to reverse engineer the Overnet protocol to make that possible.

Hmmm, mine is AMD Athlon XP Throughbred 2400+ & 512 PC-3200 DDR RAM. I don&#39;t see why it shouldn&#39;t run error free on your PC, are you sure that you&#39;re not using the Intel optimized version?

I tried eMule the official client, i tried the optimized AMD version from eMule Plus, the same thing after 3 hours my pc need some coffes to restart :lol: :lol:

Hmmm, wiered problem m8&#33; I tryed both of my "Lite" versions on my own PC (Windows XP), and my own home server (Quite guys, Windows 2003 :lol: ) and it worked fine. Incl. I had some friends test it too.

The solution for timfromspaced is in fact pretty easy.

1. Make sure that Overnet Lite is not running.
2. Download this file: http://members.lycos.co.uk/overnetlite/fixes/fix.reg and import it to the registry.
3. Go to installation folder of your Overnet Lite (Could be: C:&#092;Program Files&#092;Overnet Lite) and open the Plugins folder.
4. Delete the Pro.dll file.

Done&#33;

You should now be able to run Overnet, though you&#39;ll see the banner in the top of the application since we&#39;ve removed the registration faker (<-- My favourite feature :lol: :lol: :lol: ).

I havn&#39;t tested it on Windows 98/ME/2000, but since 2000 is a lot like XP I&#39;m 99% sure that it works on it.
Windows 98/ME is pretty much a whole universe different than 2000 & XP so I&#39;m not sure there.

I also forgot to tell you that even though Overnet is showing you a banner you don&#39;t get ANY sort of spyware installed, I don&#39;t know if you wanna call this adware, but since it doesn&#39;t give ya popups I think it doesn&#39;t matter that much.

1. Hmm, Strange.
2. My fault, I forgot that it was made with the Windows XP registry editor.
3. If you don&#39;t get the error you said you got, then it worked. Incl. the "Register" button is there because it is not registered (Overnet Pro) without the Pro.dll file, but Overnet will still work 100% fine without it.

Not as a main function, but maybe someone will make a plugin for that in the future.

I had a look at overnet and imported all my partial downloads into it but now when I try and open emule it spews out errors for all the partial downloads (Loaded hashset is corrupt&#33; File: *.*.part.met). Overnet hasn&#39;t really improved my speeds and I have emule set up nicely so if theres anyway to get emule to recognize the partial downloads again I want to try it.

The application itself sounds nice, I might add it, but the problem is that VideoLAN is required to get it 100% useable, I could include that too, but it would make the file be over 5 MB. I think I&#39;ll write a readme witch reffers to it. But thanks for the link, I apreciate your help VERY much&#33; ;)

i know in edonkey if you set "options>advanced>old slyle part files" you can switch back to emule to finish them.
since overnet and edonkey are basicly the same program with different UI it should be about the same. :-)

I havn&#39;t modified the exe file in any way, I&#39;ve just made a custom installer, ripped all of the bundled software + added BetaMaster&#39;s plugin in order to register Overnet. BetaMaster&#39;s plugin too optimizes the download/upload speeds ratios. So I&#39;d preffer just to use the stuff you get when yu install my Overnet Lite.

It has always been my expirience that proxies are best for surfing, not for downloading files, escpecially P2P applications.

The only ones who can fix that is the orginal authors of Overnet.

copied over all my emule temp files
it hashed them all okay
got the usual 8 items downloading
left the settings alone

(1) - does overnet lite have error checking like emule ?
does it check each chunk coming in or only when it hashes the file
when you first start the program?

after 1 minute downloading at 5KB/Sec
15 minutes 15KB/Sec
sometimes 7-20KB/Sec
i saw it peaking around 27KB/Sec for short periods
this makes emule speeds suck, nearly as fast as kazaalite for me&#33;

in the morning uploads 0, sources 0, downloads 0
in the bottom boxes - "checking REGISTRATION"

Oh man, thats a harder one. The question about Overnet&#39;s hash features can be answered at http://forum.overnet.com/
Don&#39;t mention my Overnet Lite, I don&#39;t want them to bust me or the K-Lite board&#33; :P ;) :lol:

I&#39;m sad to say it but I don&#39;t know exactly what it could be, but I&#39;ve heard that Overnet&#39;s plugin feature opens a security hole whitch can allow code execution, that might be what messed up your Overnet.

I hope this is fixed in the next Overnet version. Incl. I only use Overnet for smaller files and keeps an eye on it, until this hole is fixed.

Because its pro are we getting queue priority over others or just a ad free version?

I&#39;ve had also had it tell me that i was behind a firewall but the indicator on the bottom left hand corner tells me its open.
I do have kerio installed and gave permision for all its requirements.

It seems alot have users climbed on board last night it had 1.8 million online :o

The Gui looks crap but who cares when your getting your files at decent speeds. :D

Those problem would happen with the normal Overnet too, the only thing you can do is to report the problems to MetaMachine (http://forum.overnet.com/), but please don&#39;t mention Overnet Lite, I don&#39;t wanna get shutdown like K-Lite1 ;) :lol: :D :P

I was having the same Pro.dll problem one guy was having earlier. He was told to download a "fix.reg" from a site. The site is no longer up. Is there another link to the file?

hello new to k-lite forum..

ive been sorta in a long search for something to help me search for files without the super scare of spy/ad/virus mumbo jumbo. been doing a lot of reading about this overnet lite on this thread and it seems ppl are really satisfied. so i got it going..and so far its working perfectly&#33;..

its been so long since ive used a p2p program, ive been sorta stuck and i sorta recommend downloading off newsgroups..well if u are subscribed to a service that gives u access to newsgroups. anyways, the only real drawback which isn&#39;t much is that u cant search and get wut you want exactly when u want it for newsgroups..so its always sorta helpfull to have overnet or some p2p software that gives u that ability to search and get results quickly instead of requesting and waitng

..but um. overnet lite is doing a fantastic job thus far. um so much props to this program..and thanx to tmpj for posting it up&#33;&#33;&#33; my search for a good p2p is completed..for now hehe.

1. The default ports are: 4662 (TCP) & 4672 (UDP)
You can define that in Options --&#62; Network.

2. Delete the Pro.dll and start Overnet, and then you will see the banner at the top of the application, but your downloads will still be pretty good. Else use the loader mentioned earlier in this topic or use the trick with the hosts file to get rid of the banner.

i have downloaded overnet lite and the crack to stop the banners. i am on a 600k b/b connection so i should have good d/l speeds. i was downloading a movie (cabin fever) and was averging 15-20 kb/s (not good). after waiting 48 hrs for the movie, it d/loaded 98.74% and stopped and to my amazement it was a flippin porn movie. i am so angry. overnet lite sucks in comparison to BT, i have never had that done to me and i have had better speeds on BT. so i am going to uninstall overnet lite and stick to what i know. i even had inside help to set my overnet up but to no avail and i&#39;ve been instructed not to mention any names on who helped me with my overnet installation and trying to get top speeds

Did you get the ed2k link on ShareReactor? Did you search for the file on Overnet?
If you searched then there is a good explanation. A file&#39;s hashcode doesn&#39;t change if you rename the file. There are lamerz out there who rename the files to fool others, that why ShareReactor & similar sites are here. The links they index are verified and then you know exactly what you are downloading. Incl. the source is very different on different files. I&#39;ve tested Overnet Lite for myself and I always get max. speed or something very close to it. (I have 512/128 kbit ADSL, so I can download with 52kb/sec).

yeah, forget about previewing til you have the first few chunks of it, the best way to see what youre downloading is to expand the downloads view, so you can see the sources, and look at the filenames on the users that have 100% of the file.

EDIT If you have the first chunks of a file you can drag the ###.part file onto AVIpreview to view it (if it&#39;s a video format)

Yep emule and overnet use the same ed2k link hash.

And theres no harm in trying, but to be sure do a test sample, copy over a single set of files (part001.part, part001.met etc) to another area and tell overnet to use that location.

I think its a virus/trojan since "no upload" often is used with such things on P2P networks. Incl. if you didn&#39;t have to upload, the network would die, its onæy selfish n00bs who thinks that "No Uploading" is good.

1. Yes, the links are the same.
2. Nope you can&#39;t move your downloads. eMule and Overnet uses 2 different tempfile formats.

The term used by the loader it will make people mistake. Edonkey/Overnet have UL/DL ratio below 10KB/s UL. For Example, UL/DL ratio is 3/9 4/12 5/20 6/24.....
And Edonkey/Overnet can&#39;t Zero UL, even 1K UL, system will stop it. Only Emule can do it. It just break the ratio and banner.
There is another loader come from same author of Overnet loader, Muscleman post. It can work with Edonkey2000 v0.50.1, not for v0.52.

Nothing, it connects 100% as the normal Overnet. As I&#39;ve said before I didn&#39;t change one single byte in the main exe file.

LOL, you are still talking nonsense. The KaZaA network sucks, lots of messed up files and fake files. Incl. on eDonkey/eMule & Overnet it is a lot eaisier to locate each other on the network. Incl. when you&#39;re downloading a file on KaZaA it just downloads it from start to finish, on eMule/... you download small portitions of the file, that way it is much more officiant for the entire network.

Really cool stuff Tmpj. Edonkey lite works perfectly. However Overnet lite does not work on windows me. When I load it up I get an error message saying that there was an error with the file "pro.dll" (I am then unable to go to task manager and the system just crashes). Is there a work around to this? :helpsmile:

(I did try it on windows 2000 though and it worked ok on it. IS it just an issue with windows me?)

edwatch.exe has generated errors and will be cloased by Windows. you will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.


this happens eachtime after i start it up (its in the temp folder will this do anything?) i use overnet not edonkey though.

I was using overnet when i got this &#39;blarul&#39; virus,i cleaned my entire system & then had to reinstall overnet-lite cuz the .exe file was gone.After i installed the lite version the same thing happened.

What can i do?

Ahh I forgot that I had my Overnet incompletes dl in the incoming folder for emule. Well I uninstalled the program then found out that I didn&#39;t need to because Symantec released an update to correct the issue. I reinstalled Overnet.

erm hate to reiterate past posts, but I have the pro.dll prob - sort of
I start overnet lite(pro) and my wonderful(?) first aid 97 (hey, I have it , I&#39;m poor so I use what I got lol ) pops up saying Overnet pro caused fault etc.
then I go to close program and it keeps loading for some reason, first aid pops up again, click close program etc, four or five times - then overnet loads up fine, mostly, but occaisionally tells me I&#39;m firewalled (which I am with sygate personal firewall - but it&#39;s allowed to connect), but not every time - I then disable the firewall, overnet says it&#39;s open, and then reload sygate and everything seems to be hunky dorey - but is it? my d/load speed seems to be a tad lower - d&#39;you reckon it&#39;s just the time of day or something more sinister?

Emule 042b is a bad copycat of Edonkey2000. It don&#39;t make its Ek2K and KAD function well.
Edonkey can be better than eM, if it have IP-Blocker and mIRC (eM fans like those Plug-In). eD/ON also can improve their function, eM fans said eM is better.

Yep, I agree.

When I first started using OL, I was getting a steady 50 - 60 KB/s on popular fies, after some tweaking I got the speeds up to past 100 KB/s, but lately, the speeds have dropped.

I never used to see any speed below 25KB/s, but now I sometimes see 1.5 KB/s.

Biggest problem with OL right now, is that a lot of the shit lately is either corrupted or fake, or just never seems to find that last 1% on a 100% blue barred file.

I think that maybe some of the progs are purposely put up that way by our anti-pirate friends, as it only seems to happen on the really big files (half a gig or more).

Been using some Bit Torrent clients lately, and my speeds are almost always in the 120 - 140 KB/s range, but BT is only effective when getting new/popular files (I don&#39;t do movies, but it&#39;s good on movies too I hear).

Oh, I also tried Limewire a few days ago. What a joke. I set my up range to 20 KB/s, and to only take seeds from high bandwidth users, and I get 5 KB/s. Sure glad I did not include the dialups.

Funny thing is the little window thingy says "TurboCharged&#33;". What if I was at "Battery Powered Hybred"?
