okay i put a CRW in use nero burn it as VCD it takes 4 hours to encode burns it okay I chuck it in my DVD player and ........ nothing happens my DVD player plays VCDs it says and the AVI plays perfect on my computer whats going on???? I then thought okay maybe its a CDRW so I try CRRW it takes 4 hours to encode again using nero when it goes to start burnign it then said failed to write speed

Don&#39;t know if you realize this but you cannot burn an AVI file into a VCD. It must be converted to MPEG-1 format first and than burned.
And of course your computer will play an AVI file.

sorry but if u read my post u would have read Nero converted the AVI file to mpeg-1

I don&#39;t beleave there is nero software that converts too mpeg. You need Tmpgenc and Virtual dub too do this process. This process eats off your RAM and can take up too 4 & + hours.

To get a idea check this link out. http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm This site takes your regular Divx files (Cough Cough avi cough Cough) and converts them too mpeg. If I was you I&#39;d bookmark this site. Cause alot of your conversion/movie answer can be answered here.

sorry if you already said and I missed it, but do you know for certain that your stand-alone DVD player can read CDR / CDRW discs? My NAD T550 can&#39;t read any computer-burned media at all, which is a bit of a downer :(

Nero can automatically convert avi&#39;s to mpg&#39;s.

nero can do it, but its much easier to convert to mpg-1 yourself. that way, its possible to create the file such that it&#39;ll fit on one CD, (or two or whatever) I also trust it more, as you can watch the mpeg on your PC, to check it through, before wasting a CD

a) Nero&#39;s .avi converter isn&#39;t very reliable - you&#39;re better off converting with TMPGenc first.

B) CD-RW&#39;s might not work in you DVD player. Try using a regular CD-R.

CD-RW&#39;s compatibilty is no different from CD-R. He&#39;s smart to use CD-RW first just to test it and make sure it&#39;s working. I&#39;m sure he doesn&#39;t want a coaster collection.

thanks for all the help guys while the board was down i managed to encode with tmpge after exracting it from virtaldub and burn with nero it came up perfect/ and yes i was using the CRW till I got at least a piture rather then having 1000s of coasters

Yea, using CD-RW&#39;s was a smart move. I use them also but too bad I don&#39;t have any DVD-RW&#39;s ;) Besides, that coaster collection is nice if the CD&#39;s you used had different colors. But getting back to topic, adthomp, where are you?&#33;? Are you still having problems?

That&#39;s good. I also solved my problem over the "break"... It&#39;s great sometimes when you have a sorta vacation :D

Not all dvd players will play CD-RW&#39;s....mine will play vcd but not SVCD nor cdr nor cd-rw

I&#39;m lucky then because mine play&#39;s CD-RW&#39;s and I got it from Circuit City brand new for about &#036;50 :D

Well, I&#39;m unlucky then because mine will only play cd-rw&#39;s, not cd-r&#39;s (which we all know are a crapload cheaper). So I either have to spend the money on cd-rws or get more hard drive space to hold all the ones that are playback ready but not on disc.

Also try next time with menu-options disabled.
A lot of stand-alone DVD-players can&#39;t handle (s)VCDs with menu.
If this works you can try in a later project inserting chapters.
Try first on cdrw. ;)

I have used both TMPGEnc and DVD2SVCD to encode VCD/SVCD&#39;s. IMHO DVD2SVCD is way faster, much easier, and much more stable. Use the CinemaCraftEncoder version 250 not higher. I have had many .avi files that TMPGEnc just could not handle (program would crash after like 8 hours :( ) These same .avi&#39;s worked perfectly fine with DVD2SVCD. Then I burn the bin/cue at 4x with VCDEasy. One tip I read that has saved hours of aggravation: If you have a slight audio sync problem on your standalone pause the s/vcd then hit play. I watched hours of movies slightly out of sync til I read this.

If U R In A PAL Region I Dnt Think Nero Converts To PAL only NTSC. I THINK
So The Best Way Is To Convert to woteva region ur in using TMPGenc then only use nero to burn cuz i had loads of problems converting wit nero
