It looks to me like you've had a prog that has fucked with your graphics .... a game maybe? It happens now and then. Have you rebooted?

its not a graphics porblem becuase in the start menu things are highlighted (like when you install new stuff) you should scan for virus spyware trogans etc. I think you might have one :(

Have you install an NVIDIA driver lately?
Looks like an NVIDIA glitch. Or a bad graphics card driver, or just a bad graphics card.

this is EXACTLY where the tweakUI powertoy for windoze comes in handy. it can rebuild the icon images when they get screwed.
google it or search on microsoft's site

A reboot clears it up. It looks like what he did, and now it's OK.
