I use EAC for ripping (and if I'm not doing anything on the computer I encode with it otherwise I use The MPEG Suite). For burning I use Nero (I don't know what version) and for listening I use Winamp 2.9x or 5.1.

I use CDex for ripping and encoding. I'm not some snobby audiophile so I don't give a fuck if the sound is perfect. Hell, I don't even encode my mp3s at anything higher then 128k.

<_< No Arm will continue to encode at 128k. For several reasons I have included

1) I have limited bandwidth(only about 10k upload) and I share the connection with 3 other people so I cant kill all the bandwidth. More kilobytes means more lime taken to download. Maybe when my cheap fucking mom finally caves and gets a better ISP then the bandwidth problem will improve. She gets a discount from the phone company because she works for them but it's still crappy dsl.

2) I have no fucking life so I'm always on the computer and using the internet. I'de like to be able to use the internet and not have it killed by letting some warez monkey download off me.

3) I don't notice any difference. I use 2 sound enhancement plugins for Winamp that make the sound richer anyway. :music1:

4) I don't rip albums anyway.

:frusty: So shut the fuck up about my ripping quality. You don't like it, BUY THE FUCKING CD. Or just download off someone else. B)

use EAC + lame w/ --alt presets
and fuck what everyone else does or says.
they're only in denial.

^^^ and making poor excuses ;)

*btw: if you don't rip cd's then what the fuck are you encoding?

 I don't give a fuck if my excuses are poor and I also don't give a fuck what anyone else says. Ill continue to do exactly what I've been doing. B) B)

What I encode? Well recently I bought this Execrator album off Cdbaby. Great album. :) Thrash metal and power metal combination with a vocalist who can outscream Tom Araya and can sing clean vocals powerfully too. ;)

I ripped that and now I want to return it because the recording quality is shitty.

CDex isn't a bad progie for ripping, since it allows EAC/Lame, but 128? Are you kidding? Comparing 128 to 192 is like comparing dialup to broadband. They will both get you there, but why not take the best route? :music1:

<_< Really I never noticed any difference. Maybe when you have the Enhancer and 4Front headphones plugins on Winamp it makes the sound better you notice no difference.

I have never rippsed a CD yet, but I will do when I get time.

I used to use Winamp 2.8X

But I have just started using Foobar and its sound quality seems much clearer to me and I like the way I can have several playlists loaded up and swap between them, and see which playlist I am playing right now and then when I call it up next day the playlists are all there ready to go.

Thsi is what I asked the guys at winamp to do, but they never did.

You never know the name of the playlist you are playing in winamp cos it does not show anywhere.

Just wish Foobar would look a bit better.

PS stick to the subject and stop rubbishing each other.

Lets discuss the merits of 128 v 196 in another thread in a gentlemanly fashion.

Agreed.

I use EAC for ripping, just like in the Pinned Topic.
But, sometimes it fails, i have some very "well used" cd's and EAC just wont get the data out of it. But when it works the files are good,
if i want perfect, i rip them to *.wav
Then i use Audiograbber (the Tagging is cool from the net) with Lame.
Or, i use Steinberg Wavelab 4.0g. with Lame.

Most of the Tagging is done with Tag & Rename and
organising is done with OrangeCD.

Cheers:

[SIZE=7]I only started ripping CDs about a year ago and used to use Musicmatch, which I soon realised was a bag of shite for a number of reasons. I now use Audiograbber (with LAME) and winamp, but I have noticed that a lot of people prefer EAC. What are the main differences, and are there any major differences in quality?

Thanks
