Ok,

I've got a GeForce FX 5200 and I think it's crap <_< When ever I want to play a decent game with it I always end up having to lower the res, shadows, effects etc just to get a smooth frame rate or I'm forced to play in bullet time! This is with polygon heavy games like Halo, GTA3 etc.

My specs,

Win 2K Pro
512 DDR Ram
2600 Athlon
80g HD
K7Triniton NForce2 MotherBoard

I want my PC to play games like an Xbox on speed! I want all the video settings in a game cracked up to max without a hint of slow down!

So which card IYO is the best?

Happy new year! :beerchug:

An Xbox on speed, so... that'd be a 64MB GeForce MX 200??

121, with them specs, them games mentioned should play perfect.

I have a 1.3ghz duron, geforce4 MX440 64mb, 512mb sdram and them games run fine on my system.

I have noticed so much threads about this fx 5200 and it sounds like a peice of shit to me.

You should get a geforcefx 5600. Its pretty good and not to expensive :)

Evil Gemini,

Do you think the GeForce FX 5600 will make a huge difference? The FX 5200 runs great if all video settings/effects in a game are drastically reduced.

Can the GeForce FX 5600 handle high resolutions without slow down? Maybe I need more ram? Is there a card that out performs the GeForce FX 5600?

on my personal opinion, yes the fx5600 would take any game on high right now....

however you gotta tell us about a budget of urs.... how much money u willing to spend?

Mad Cat

Buy an Asus Radeon 9800XT if you got the cash.

as DWk said, the 5600 would be way better than the 5200.

By bro has one and it kicks ass.

Im not a graphics card person but the fx5200 doesnt sound that much more powerfull than my geforce4

Also i have never had any problems with it.

5900se. its 200 bucks, and its better than all the other midrange gfx cards

or u can be like me and buy both a sapphire 9800xt and a chaintech 5950 ultra

btw the 5600 can not handle the games u mentioned at any FPS above 30 on 1600 x 1200

a 5900 is at 200 dollars.... the 5900se you can find at 185....

btw about the fps on the 5600..... theres no need to play games in 1600x1200.... just 1024 will do enuff :)

The 9700Pro wins on every test exept 3, there only loosing by 1 or 2 FPS. The 9700Pro wins by a decent amount in every other test, and once you turn the filtering up is wins by about 20FPS in all the test. I say the 9700Pro for $220.

I have to agree, The 9700 Pro IS a great card. I would save a few bucks more and get this.

bigdawgfoxx
01-01-2004, 11:16 PM
Yeah the 5900Se beats the 9500Pro..sorry

The 9700Pro is the best out of what weve said if you dont want to spend a ton (its $220.)

DWk
01-01-2004, 11:44 PM
220!

and the 5900 (not SE) is 200....hmmmm

bigdawgfoxx
01-01-2004, 11:45 PM
Dude I agreed the 5900SE was better then the 9500Pro ok, I told him to get an nvidia unless he wanted to spend more so dont push it!!! lol

bigdawgfoxx
01-01-2004, 11:51 PM
The 5900non ultra beats the 9700Pro only 3 times. And in all the quality benchmarks the 9700Pro beats it pretty bad.

Why does everyone feel the need to run their games at ridiculously high resolution

Alot of times you can see more of the map at one time. So in say, halo, you can see that guy sneaking up to the side of you.

Although im not one to talk I run my halo at the lowest resolution, the 640x 480 one I blieve, I dont really care for the bigger area that much.

Evil Gemini

Ive never seen a game where higher res gives more view of the map, or is it only in halo ??

DWk
01-02-2004, 01:48 PM
i think that would be only in halo, although i havent seen it yet (and i've tried with diff resolutions)....

all the resolution gives you is a chance for more detailed pixels, better polygons, and the text is smaller lol... at 1600 the text is WAY too smaller <_<

:D :)

bigdawgfoxx

I run NFSU demo...ugh...at 1280X1024 with 4XAA and 16XAF, and it runs flawlessly with all details on highest setting. Damn I love how that game looks.

DWk
01-02-2004, 04:41 PM
i think it runs the same as yours with an fx5600 or 5200 ultra ;)

the game isnt that graphic-demanding, even when the graphics are stunning.....

01-02-2004, 04:48 PM

uhhh i would say big scenarios with lots of evil guys.... this mostly means like FPS games or something...

oh and fyi....graphic-demanding doesnt mean it has great gfx...but merely it needs a good gfx renderer...
