Piolet is not spyware free, and Blubster too.

Look's like hacked piolet. if you click on the little setting's button in bottom right corner and go under prtocol and read what it say's under start up nodes.(This button allows you to add your own custom list of IP's for Piolet
to connect to at startup.) You think they would have changed it to blubster at least.

Same thing...
MP2P (http://www.slyck.com/mp2p.php?page=1)

The better of the 3 clients on the MP2P network is said to be Piolet
Slyck (http://www.slyck.com/mp2p.php?page=2)

Piolet (French and Spanish for "upward or climbing") is our favorite of the three clients. It is adware and spyware free, and provides access to a wide variety of music files. In addition, it is very easy to use, even more so than Napster. This client should be your top choice for connecting to the Manolito P2P network.

What OS ?

When you open Blubster an the bottom centre of the application the text should quickly change from “Connecting…” to “Connected to the Blubster”. . If this does not happen you have not successfully configured Blubster.

This can be remedied in many cases by doing one or both of these two actions:

1.- Turn off any firewall software that you currently have running. In the case of XP users this could be running without your knowledge. To stop this, follow these instructions:
• Right click on the network connections settings icon in the bottom right of your screen and left click on “Open Network Connections”
• Right click on your current network connection icon and left click on “Properties”.
• Left click on the tab marked “Advanced”
• Uncheck the “Internet Firewall Protection” box and click “OK”
• You will now need to shut down Blubster and restart. You will also need to close your current Internet connection and re-connect for these changes to be applied.

2.- You may find that this does not solve the problem. If this is so then you may need to change your port configuration in your router settings.
• Protocol: UDP.
• Port: 41170
Action: Allow inbound traffic, redirect to your computer.

How to make Blubster work with Norton Personal Firewall 2002.
Double click the Norton Icon in the bottom right of your screen.
Navigate to the Personal Firewall Section and click on "Internet Access Control"
You will now see a list of programs that are permitted to access the web
Click on "Add"
Locate Blubster.exe (the default location is C:\Program Files\Blubster)
Select it and click "open"
In the pop-up window asking you what you want to do with this application click "Permit this application access to the Internet" and then click "OK"
If another pop-up window is displayed bearing the message "Choose Application Category", select "General" and click "OK"

How to make Blubster work with DI-604 D-Link Router
Open your Browser and go to http://192.168.0.1
Login as administrator
On the Advanced tab page you need to change some settings.
Name: Blubster
Private IP: Your IP address
Protocol type: UDP
Private Port: 41170
Public Port: 41170
Schedule: Always
Click "Apply"
In Blubster go to "Config" and make sure that the Firewall Port settings are set to "1" and "1"

How to turn off XP Firewall to enable Blubster connection.
Right click on the network connections settings icon in the bottom right of your screen and left click on “Open Network Connections”
Right click on your current network connection icon and left click on “Properties”.
Left click on the tab marked “Advanced”
Uncheck the “Internet Firewall Protection” box and click “OK”
You will now need to shut down Blubster and restart. You will also need to close your current Internet connection and re-connect for these changes to be applied.

Connect to Blubster using Linux.
iptables-based firewall/router
iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -p udp --dport 41170:41350 -j ACCEPT iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -p tcp --dport 41170:41350 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -t nat -p udp --dport 41170:41350 -j DNAT --to 190.666.6.6 iptables -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -t nat -p tcp --dport 41170:41350 -j DNAT --to 190.666.6.6
Change 190.666.6.6 to the address of your machine that is running Blubster. And change eth0 to the interface connected directly with the Internet. The first two lines are only necessary only if your default FORWARD policy is something other than ACCEPT.

How to fix "unable to register DLL/OCX: LoadLibrary"
You may receive this following error message when trying to install Blubster: "Unable to register DLL/OCX: LoadLibrary failed; code 31. A device attached to the system is not functioning"
You may be able to fix this by updating your browser to the latest version.

How to connect to Blubster through a router.
Go to the site of your router maker. You are usually confronted with a login screen. Type in the default password given by the maker.
Go to your download or port settings. Select UPD as your transport protocol, if this is not available choose something that isnÕt TCP/IP, and type in a port you want to open (for example 41102). Go to the Blubster "Config" page and retype that port number.

How to configure ZoneAlarm to connect to Blubster.
ZoneAlarm Free Edition
Go to Firewall > Internet Zone Security and change the setting down to "medium"
ZoneAlarm Pro Edition
Go to Firewall > Internet Zone Security and click Custom. Now scroll down to "Allow Incoming UDP ports". Select and check this and enter 41170-41350 in the appropriate field. Select and check "Allow Outgoing UDP ports" and type 1-41350 in the field below. Click apply and OK.

You can get the clean version from
http://www.chez-todd.com/modules.php?name=...wdownload&cid=3 (http://www.chez-todd.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=3)

3rd one down Blubster250clean.exe

direct link http://www.chez-todd.com/modules.php?name=...op=getit&lid=17 (http://www.chez-todd.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=17)

It looks like this is from dr damn that what it says after installing anyway.

I have to say it works like a charm and from what i searched for i got fast speeds not like soulseeks queues.

Thanks SH :D

And Yeah blubster clean should get its own world B)

junkyardking

Just noticed this has 250,000 :o users(if its correct) that more than beats soulseek i think, if soulseek had that amount of users at the same time the server would be down permantly  , but blubster is p2p of course.

They only thing that is missing when compared to ss is the downloading of whole folders but i rarly used soulseek anyway too many queues, prefer bittorent for that always got full speeds for music albums. ;)

mogadishu
01-03-2004, 07:22 AM
yes, we know ss is slow.. but the quality and full albums are what makes it good. Can blubster offer that?

junkyardking
01-03-2004, 07:24 AM
Okay i've sucessfuly posted mp2p hashes in musicworld here (http://klboard.ath.cx/index.php?act=ST&f=18&t=91599&st=0)

I've also started a thread in musicworld here (http://klboard.ath.cx/index.php?act=ST&f=28&t=91601)

I dont know if some of the Soulseek regulars will use this program but as i can see it blubster is better and as for not currently being able to download whole folders this can be eaisly overcome with using verified hashes to hash full albums.

Adware

Adware is any software application in which advertising banners are displayed while the program is running. The authors of these applications include additional code that delivers the ads, which can be viewed through pop-up windows or through a bar that appears on a computer screen. The justification for adware is that it helps recover programming development cost and helps to hold down the cost for the user.
Adware has been criticized for occasionally including code that tracks a user's personal information and passes it on to third parties, without the user's authorization or knowledge. This practice has been dubbed spyware and has prompted an outcry from computer security and privacy advocates, including the Electronic Privacy Information Center.

Noted privacy software expert Steve Gibson of Gibson Research explains: "Spyware is any software (that) employs a user's Internet connection in the background (the so-called 'backchannel') without their knowledge or explicit permission. Silent background use of an Internet 'backchannel' connection must be preceded by a complete and truthful disclosure of proposed backchannel usage, followed by the receipt of explicit, informed consent for such use. Any software communicating across the Internet absent of these elements is guilty of information theft and is properly and rightfully termed: Spyware."

A number of software applications, including Ad-Aware and OptOut (by Gibson's company), are available as freeware to help computer users search for and remove suspected spyware programs.

Spyware is Internet jargon for Advertising Supported software (Adware). It is a way for shareware authors to make money from a product, other than by selling it to the users. There are several large media companies that offer them to place banner ads in their products in exchange for a portion of the revenue from banner sales. This way, you don't have to pay for the software and the developers are still getting paid. If you find the banners annoying, there is usually an option to remove them, by paying the regular licensing fee.

Why is it called "Spyware" ?
While this may be a great concept, the downside is that the advertising companies also install additional tracking software on your system, which is continuously "calling home", using your Internet connection and reports statistical data to the "mothership". While according to the privacy policies of the companies, there will be no sensitive or identifying data collected from your system and you shall remain anonymous, it still remains the fact, that you have a "live" server sitting on your PC that is sending information about you and your surfing habits to a remote location.....
Are all Adware products "Spyware"?
No, but the majority are. There are also products that do display advertising but do not install any tracking mechanism on your system. These products are not indexed in our database.

Is Spyware illegal?
Even though the name may indicate so, Spyware is not an illegal type of software in any way. However there are certain issues that a privacy oriented user may object to and therefore prefer not to use the product. This usually involves the tracking and sending of data and statistics via a server installed on the user's PC and the use of your Internet connection in the background.

What's the hype about?
While legitimate adware companies will disclose the nature of data that is collected and transmitted in their privacy statement (linked from our database), there is almost no way for the user to actually control what data is being sent. The fact is that the technology is in theory capable of sending much more than just banner statistics - and this is why many people feel uncomfortable with the idea.

On the other hand...
Millions of people are using advertising supported "spyware" products and could not care less about the privacy hype..., in fact some "Spyware" programs are among the most popular downloads on the Internet.

Real spyware...
There are also many PC surveillance tools that allow a user to monitor all kinds of activity on a computer, ranging from keystroke capture, snapshots, email logging, chat logging and just about everything else. These tools are often designed for parents, businesses and similar environments, but can be easily abused if they are installed on your computer without your knowledge.

These tools are perfectly legal in most places, but, just like an ordinary tape recorder, if they are abused, they can seriously violate your privacy.

ok clean blubster didnt connect for me but piolet does.. the files are sh*t.. no full albums, hardly any good quality files. It offers what kazaa offers... fast downloads for bad quality singles. Nothing can beat soulseek..
