Your laffing you got a good mobo. First off read your motherboard book see what your Cpu goes up to its probaly 3.2 or something. Then you just upgrade your chip. Like I said your lafffing dude

upgrade the Videocard to a 9600 XT or 9800 XT the sound card to use a little bump as well and go with DDR Ram and you'd be fine. the MX doesn't support the proper shaders that newer games are going to and you'd still being doing good by today standards in about another year your gonna need to upgrade your CPU tho around Q1 05

You really need to shut the fuck. Have you ever owned a gf4 mx 440?? If you have and you had problems with it thats not anyones problem. I have had my gf4 mx 440 for a while and I have had no problems playing even the newer games like call of duty, halo, battlefield, kotor etc. and with good graphics. And mine is INTEGRATED I tell you integrated!

Same here, the G4 MX is an excellant budget card, of yesterday now though.

Also, the G4's, are really a good bargain these days.

You don't really need a new sound card. Motherboards come with sound integrated nowadays, most have 6.1

Yep. I agree 100%

I have a geforce4MX440 64mb and its a very reliable card.

If it was DX9 compatible it would be an awsome card. :)

BTW trillscout, was the 2.4Ghz available 2 years ago ??

Your have a nice comp there :)
Most specs better then mine and I made mine this year, lol.

I would say upgrade the grpahics card though, although the mx440 is not all 'crap', you could be a lot better off. I had a gf4 mx420 for over a year and it served be great, not sure why we hear so much bad reviews about it, most probably when comparing the the ti's of the same set ...

the best upgrade in terms of speed increase would be adding extra ram, if your mobo can support ddr buy some of that, you will see a bigger increase in speed over buying a new graphics card more speed for less money, ie memory is about £50.00 for 512 meg ddr ram, graphics card , well, dont know, but costs more probably and the speed increase is less than with a memory upgrade, also p4 2ghz is fine for most everything you can through at it.

01-02-2004, 04:28 PM
I duno bout that. 512 is alot of ram and if hes not even close to using that up, he wont notice much diff in another 512...its kinda just pointless ram. I would say get a new mobo and DDR ram.

trillscout
01-02-2004, 05:01 PM
My mobo i845 isn't DDR compatiable so that's the first I should get
apparently if I waited a month I could of bought a P4B that was <_<

any suggestions on a mobo?

P 2.4ghz wasn't out 2yrs ago the highest was 2ghz at that time which is what I got

I thought my Ge4 was dx9 compatiable

I have dx9 installed and no errors with games. But I guess it just doesn't
use the technology to its potential like the newer cards.

thx every ;) body

i don't want to make all the posts before this sound stupid :frusty: (ok i am :P )

what do you plan to use your computer for?, the current stats of your computer are godly for an advanced typewriter... So what do YOU use this computer for, if all you do is surf the net etc, you are fine, casual computing is well within the boundries of your computer's grasp. The ONLY reason to upgrade at this point would be for possible improvment in games. That is still something to think about though, as your card will do all the stuff required just fine, even gameing. Another thing we all could benifit knowing is your budget.. if you are willing to spend 2 grand again then i have some suggestions... but i doubt you are, After you answer those question i, and others can help you further in a more precise manner.

Fair point, you dont need the best, top-end kit for ubergaming, a new gfx card would probably be what i would go for, cheaper than new mobo, which would need new memory.
Also might as well upgrade processor as well.
Then your bottleneck would be graphics card, might as well replace that also.
MMM... looks like you have nearly got yourself a replacement computer.
Why not take what you need from old pc and fit cd rom and an old 20gig hdd and sell to fund new computer project.
You only need to get a new case! on top of what you have spent already, this is'nt very much more.
Most long time computer users have already gotten the makings of an extra pc anyway, just sell old one and make yourself the pc you have always wanted.
If you keep your old monitor, you should'nt have to spend more than £500.00p .
If you have keyboard, speakers and mouse spare, you save even more.
If this post sounds/reads weird, well, you know, ...

thx sciman & cockboy

I use my mine for
1. creating ads(photoshop/Illus/Quark) all that good stuff
2. games (reason why I didn't get a Mac and forget about the price of one) :P
3. filesharing (bigtime)
4. net surfing

hearing all the replies I guess am ok for now. No way i'm selling my piece.
Although that is a good suggestion. ;)

I was really concerned with my mobo because it only uses SDRAM and I felt
2grand+(Cdn) was 2much for a comp

I dunno guess i'm a noob :D

Most gfx cards will run with dx9b installed, its only the 100% compatable ones that use all the features of dx9.
I have gforce 4 ti4200, which is only dx8 compatible, but i have installed the latest direct-x9b software.
Its a bit like the way all nvidia graphics cards can all use the same driver, even though some of them cant use all the extra driver features, they still work for most games, just they dont install bits that they dont have hardware support for, or something.
BTW, 90% of what i have just written is guesswork, handle with care.
D2D :D :D
P.S. i also play cod, deus ex2, nfs underground, prince of persia with no problems.
dont know if that is relevant.
