Ok, i thought its a good idea to try to come clear on this issue.
I hope ya all agree with me. :)

This is what our rules says:

6. Posts that contain direct download links to copyrighted software, private ftp sites, serial numbers, warez sites, and hacking sites are prohibited. Posts directly or indirectly related to any of this information will be edited. Hacking discussions are strictly prohibited within the forum. Sig2dat quicklinks and hashes are NOT considered to be DDL, therefore allowed.

And also, here's some more thought on it:

There are also some rules about direct downloads even IF the download is allowed (shareware / freeware etc).
Most webmasters ask people to link to the site instead to the download.
It's about traffic i believe, for example:
Some sites work on Advertising,
they want ppl to see them popups (duh) and not just DL files.
Bandwith costs money, to get money, there is adverts on the sites.
PopUps pay the traffic, so to speak.

It is extremely difficult to check if the links has content to copyrighted material,
if its Torrents or just plain mp3's etc.
You cant expect me to run after every Link to see if the stuff is copyrighted,
that is one Hell of a job,
plus, I lack the education of the Law in these issues. :P
And the Law is different on other countrys plus it chances every now and then too.

This rule is for protecting our own interests, none of us wants any Legal Issues
because if we had links in here to copyrighted material, right?
We want this Board be Up and Running in future too. :)

Anyone who has been looking for Torrent-sites knows what im on about,
those sites get cut off rather fast sometimes. ;)

Cheers:

What about sites like mp3.com where you can hear unsigned artists and download complete songs? There is CdBaby but I'm not intrigued by most of their music and they don't let you download full songs.
