:music1: The Pixies - Gigantic :music1:

This song is sung by the female in the group (sorry I don't know her name)
I'm just wondering if any other songs by The Pixies have her on lead vocals...

any info on this group or similar sounding bands is very much appreciated ;)

Well Kim Deal rose to fame in the Pixies, the Breeders were a crappy side project she joined after the Pixies broke up.
In the Pixies she sung a lot of backup vocals to Frank Black's (AKA Black Francis) lead, their sound takes a bit of getting used to but the pretty much invented grunge. Check out Surfa Rosa and Come on, Pilgrim.

Bullshit. You can't pinpoint grunge to the Pixies alone.

The Origin Of GRUNGE

Proto-Punk:

MC5, The Stooges, Neil Young, New York Dolls

1970s Hard Rock / Heavy Metal:

Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Kiss

Punk:

The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Germs, Flipper

1980s Alternative Rock:

Green River, Mudhoney, Nirvana, Soundgarden, The Pixies, R.E.M., Husker Du, The Replacements, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.

shes no dream girl, she just has some great vocals.
In my earlier post (http://filesharingtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=88326) I was looking for any great female vocalists in the rock genre and she stood out from the crowd.

The Muffs has a snottier vocalists i enjoy more than Kim anyway :D

I was refering to the quiet verse / loud chorus template which definded rock music at the time grunge exploded. Pixies used it first, Cobain copied it from them, everyone copied it from him.

Decent list, do you count the Velvets, Television and Rolling Stones among? I always considered Kiss a stadium rock band. Contrary to popular opinion I always thought solo Iggy made a greater influence on todays alternative rock than punk scene (Brick by Brick excepted). Also Bowie's Berlin album trilogy he made with Eno reinvented people's perception of music. The likes of Kraftwerk and Neu were making electronic music earlier but Bowie/Eno showed it could be combined with traditional instruments and accepted by general music buying folk. This was 1977, just look at what happened in the early 80s.
