hey,
i got a new dell for x-mas. it is a dimension 4600 with a view sonic vp171b lcd monitor. is is fucked. i was wondering what is the best what to clear the hard drive. ever since i started it up it just ramdomly restarts and the monitor driver doesn't seem to work, i have 8 bit color right now. is it possiable that the fan aren't hooked up right so it could over heat and reset itsself? if so how would i set it up?
thanks alot for your help

was it like this when you first started your pc?
If you can't find the problem I should call DELL ;)
as far as i know...if you merely change something to dell's windows or the pc's hardware it should void the warranty, doesnt it?
so call em....

when i try to install the video controller it says
" cannot install this hardware"
there was a probalem installing this hardware: video controller (vga) compatible
i am gonna call dell after i eat but does that mean anything? and what is the best way to reformat the c drive ms dos didn't format it
I thought Dell, had this fantastic fix it at home warranty.
If you really received the machine like this - then it is their responsibility.
or did you install everything?

Yep, thats the best thing to do. Your paying over the odds for the system so take advantage of their service.
I would never buy a system from any retailer, prefer to build it myself, its much cheaper.
Amen, Robert. I won't touch anything but self-built, Alienwares, Voodoos, and Falcon NWs.
scottwile, you should get your cash back. It's a Dell man, what'd you expect?

Just kiddin. Try taking a look at your owners manual. And I hope for the sake of god that your not running the preinstalled o.s. that came with your computer. Format the whole drive and install a fresh copy of xp pro.
