SVCD is a bit different to VCD in that you choose the bitrate, so you choose how much to fit on to the CD. Generally you can fit about 35-60 mins on a standard SVCD.
There are other slightly different formats like XSVCD which will enable you to fit more, but their compatibility with DVD players can be pretty limited
well on tmpgenc I set it so I can go about 1864 bitrate for vcd movies so choosing the bitrate aint a problem

I think TMPGEnc says that 50 minutes is optimal for a 650 Mb disc, so more on a 700 Mb disc. I use 800 Mb discs often, so more again.
Has anyone got a free, useful SVCD bitrate calculator ?
Next, what about an alternative to TMPGEnc ? It keeps giving me trouble <_<

I forgot to answer that in my first post..
Anyway, I have successfully burnt a full movie to SVCD (Blood - The Last Vampire) which was great quality. It was only about 45 minutes long though IIRC.
I tried a few others that were closer to two hours, and they were absolutely shocking !
I'm looking for the panasonic encoder.... If anyone has a free link... email me ;)
U should try skvcd u can fit up to 120mins on one disc with near dvd quality. The Panasonic encoder is on kazaa as well.
