And if you can't fix it, remember this: WMP sucks, and get yourself Zoom Player or BS Player.

Windows Media Player sucks. Don't use it. In fact, I just uninstalled mine. You can't just go to add and remove programs to do it either... that just removes access to it.

If you want to uninstall it, go to the start menu and click on run and type in this command:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall

I used it on Windows XP. Should work on 2000. If not, then try LitePC's XPLite/2000Lite here (http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html)

The codec packs installs the neccesary codecs to watch WMP files. A good replacement player would be Media Player Classic. It's based on the only verson of WMP even remotely respectable, but waaay better. It doesn't even install. It's self-contained. The codec packs have that player and BS Player, another good player.

Thanks XERO GRID, I appreciate all the effort you went to. I'll try your suggestions. Although I use Yahoo's player for my music and videos most of the time, I prefer to use DivX for my movies, but wanted WMP as a backup, which is what I use WinAmp for also.
