My housemate is afraid of talking animals in movies and adverts, and gets really creeped out by films like Cats and Dogs.

Myself, I have a distrust of short people.

Anyone else have any wierd phobias (not your run-of-the-mill phobias like spiders and heights)?

Well it's more short males that worry me...short women are great ;)

I find short men try to make up for their height by being over-agressive and loud...of course I'm being prejudiced (is heightist a word?) but what do you expect from a tall person ;)

Known by a number of names Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, Sesquipedalophobia, and Fear of Long Words being the most common, the problem often significantly impacts the quality of life. It can cause panic attacks and keep people apart from loved ones and business associates. Symptoms typically include shortness of breath, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, nausea, and overall feelings of dread, although everyone experiences hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia in their own way and may have different symptoms.

wtf? Why does a phobia of long words have such a long word associated with it?

I still haven't figured out I am afraid os that because I hate spiders or that I am afraid of spiders because I hate clawing hands

Google feels that we should confine our comments to other sections of the board so as not to hijack. Google also feels that you are in for a beating.

I have a phobia of caterpillars.

When I was a kid, a HUGE tomato worm attached itself to the shirt on my shoulder. This thing was as big and as thick as a cigar. I turned my head and this worm was inches from my face. "Staring" at me. Being that I wore thick glasses and was very near sighted, I can see this creature very clearly over the top edge of my glasses. I could have poked my eye out.

Take a look! NASTY!!!!! (http://kenfuller.exactpages.com/AHtworm0.html)

This freaking thing was DISGUSTING! A miniature monster. I had a tough time pulling it off, because of the multiple claws gripping (That's right. No feet, and no fur - Just green skin and claws). It had a red pointy horn. It gives me chills typing this. It stuck to the skin of may hand. I had to shake it off.

To my horror, there were dozens of these thing in my tomato garden. It couldn't escape fast enough.

I hate bugs.

I'm telling you, this is f__ked up (http://kenfuller.exactpages.com/AHtworm0.html)!

Now this here's the story about the Rock Island Line
Now the Rock Island Line's a railroad line and it, runs down into New Orleans
And just outside o' New Orleans there's a, a big toll gate
And all the trains that go through the toll gate, why, They gotta pay the man some money
Unless of course they've got certain things on board
Then they, okay, and they don't never have to pay the man nothin'
And right now we see a train, she comin' on down the line and when she get up near to the toll gate
The-a, the deploy, he shout down to the driver, He wanna know what he got on board
So he say-a - What you got on board there boy
And the driver, he, sing write on back down the deploy and tell him what he got on board

Here the way he sing:
I got sheep, I got cows, I got horsies, I got pigs,
I got a-all livestock, I got a-all livestock, I got aaa-all liii-iiivestock
And the man say, well he say, you alright then boy
You don't have to pay me nothin, just get-em on through, So the train go through the tollgate
And as he go through, he got up a little bit o' steam, And a little bit o' speed

And when he's safely on the other side of the tollgate, The, the driver shout back down the line to the man
'Cause he don't care what he say now, goin' home, goin' down the Rock Island Line
Ju' say but I fooled you, I fooled you, I got pig iron, I got pig iron, I got aaaaaall pig iiiiiiiron
He said, tell you where I'm goin' boy
I'm goin' down the Rock Island Line, yes, yes, she's a mighty good road

Oh well the rock island line, she's a mighty good road, The Rock Island Line is the road to ride
Yeah the rock island line she's a mighty good road
And if you want to ride, you gotta ride it like you find it
Get your ticket at the station on the Rock Island Line
Well I may be right, I may be wrong, I know you're gonna miss me when I'm gone

Down the rock island line, she's a mighty good road, The Rock Island Line is the road to ride
Yeah the rock island line she's a mighty good road
And if you want to ride, you gotta ride it like you find it
Get your ticket at the station on the Rock Island Line
