Hi,
I have this .wmv file. When I play it in Video Lan (or Bsplayer) it skids too the end.

Get an error!

The size is about 80.2mb

The file is Carnivale Episode 4

This is the second time of downloaded the same file, and again I have the same problem....

Can I fix this? Or is this file a piece of poo? Why do people keep it if it is?

um, yeah. that is basically correct. WMV is Microsoft's exclusive format... so while other players may be able to play some WMV files, Windows Media Player is really the only one that's guaranteed to play 'em.

Not always....

I have a WMV file that will play in other players, but NOT Windows Media Player. I'm not sure, but I think there's a digital signature or copytight or something on it, I don't know.

Whatever happens, yes, WMP is the best for WMV, I'm not going to dispute that.

okay, assuming the absence of security protections, WMP is the only program that's nearly guaranteed to play all WMV files, since the format was designed for use with WMP.

i did think of that while writing my previous message, but didn't think it was worth mentioning since most non-commercial WMV files have no playback restrictions. ;)

If WMP doesn't work use Winamp 5.0

Downloaded Winamp 5.1 and still wont play properly!
Actually, the first 3 minutes play just fine, after that it goes straight to the end!

You could try converting it to mpeg with TMPGEnc or EO Video. If there is a video signal there, that might fix it. Sounds like the file might be corrupt though.

Also try the classic Windows Media Player not the Windows Media Player 9 my classic wmp plays files much better than wmp9.

I've tried all the suggestions. No luck!

The file is garbage! The first few minutes play fine, but after that its crap.
The file must be corrupt! I give up!

Thanks for all the great suggestions! ;)
