I installed Flashget yesterday I haven't downloaded anything until now. How the hell do I start a download with this thing? I thought that once I clicked a download link that it would automatically startup but to no avail it didn't.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yup. It's on the desktop via a special quicklaunch bar.

are you just trying one download or have you tried others, some links don't like download managers, try holding ctrl-alt and clicking the download to force Flashget to capture it

also try options -> monitor -> default download manager
