Yeah, just giving people a heads up. After no fewer than 8 attempts to download a certain program from kazaa, i've come to the conclusion its not possible. Why?

Because every single version on kazaa seems to contain the same worm as every other version. I don't have the name on hand (i rather stupidly closed the dialog box, and cant find the logs atm), but still, figured i best warn people to be on guard.

Addition : found the log. The worm name was SdDrop.P2P.B.1

Yeah yeah, i know, I'm an idiot.

Cyril - tried a few different versions numbered from 5.5 to 6.7 (which is odd enough, the demo on their site is 6.3?)

I would only use Kazaa Lite for music, and maybe SOME movies... But for anything else do use www.suprnova.org , or some other bit torrent website. You can even use www.sharereactor.com.

Actually, i tried a keygen and it told me "Nero has detected your attempt to ue an unlicensed key'.. or something. Then promptly uninstalled itself.

think im gonna find a crack instead. :)

If you go to the thread in bawa@Klite_user's link you'll see that mEtho has Nero 6.00.28+crack on his site. Here's the link (http://www.metho.2ya.com/)
I got it myself from there and it works flawless.(Thnx again to mEtho B) )

Damn, I wish I had known about these earlier. Maybe I can get a faster d/l speed than .5 kb/s off of them. Anyways I've gotten programs off k-lite before and only had a few problems, anything that had a virus in it got caught right off by Norton. Btw, what are the chances of me finding a virus in a .wmv file? Or any other video file in general for that matter.

TECHNICALLY, a virus file could be renamed anything.

However a virus (exe, com, bat, pif, scr...) that's been renamed to .wmv is basically harmless because MOST video players don't run executeable code from would-be video files.

One notable exception is Windows Media Player... a .vbs virus renamed as a MP3 file CAN be activated by Windows Media Player. But such files are generally VERY small unless they have overwritten larger existing video files.

If you manage to get a VIRUS from a video file, you've almost managed the impossible at this point -- and antivirus companies might pay you a little money for your 'find'.

On the OTHER hand, WMV and ASF trojan files are very possible -- these can also be renamed as MPG, AVI, and potentially almost any other video (or even audio) file extension and still run. Typically, all these do is open a website... BUT the website may contain further exploits -- ranging from as simple as a web cookie that documents that you (ie:your ip and time) played that file, to a web script that gathers personal info stored in predictable windows registry keys, to a IE exploit which installs a REAL trojan or virus which can do further damage...

So I can probably safely say that when I throw a firewall and an Antivirus program into the mix, the possibilities are pretty close to none.
Ok thanks,

Yes, if you DON'T give your media player program internet access all should be fine.

When downloading tools from Kazaa Lite K++ Users:

1. Look on the Filesize - if it is aroung 100KB or really small, that might be
a virus, dialer or etc.

2. Only download from K-Lite if you can't find in the internet.
