Ok i was looking around in my bios trying to find out were i can change my multiplier but then found out my board dosnt support it! i really need to change it because it is supposed to be set to 11.5 and it is stuck on 5.25. Is there any other way to change the multiplier?

how do you know your board doesn't support changes in the multiplier?

what board and cpu have you got?

I know it dosnt support it because i googled it and it said it dosnt on like 5 sites, and its a Athlon 1800+ Palamino, o and the mobo is a chaintech 7nif2

the multiplier on your cpu is locked, i think...have a look here (http://www20.tomshardware.com/column/20011124/index.html) if you want to unlock it

But even if i unlock it there are no options in my bios to change the multiplier

yeah, i've just read that...sorry...

what is "system performance" set to in bios?

I dont understand. I have fiddled with everything in my bios like fail safe defualts, best performance deafualts, fsb, and all that crap , but still the multiplier wont change.

i dont think its set at 5.25 becuz all the mobo ive seen, the multiplier went up at .5

and that would be some hell of a oc fsb if the multiplier is set at 5.25.

what does your system detects the speed at?

if what your saying is right, your system should read the thing as a bit under 700mhz

is this (http://www.viperlair.com/reviews/cpu_mobo/chaintech/amd/7nif2/) your board?

if so, look at http://www.viperlair.com/images/reviews/cpu_mobo/chaintech/amd/7nif2/chipset.gif this picture and note the "system performance" option...what does yours say?

Yup thats the good old piece of shit. Mine is set to turbo right now, but i have tried all the combos like optimal and shit but nothin works

Did you try to clear the CMOS?

Yes

Hmmm. Maybe if your motherboard is pretty new you could send it back...and get a diff mobo.

Has the CPU been used on another board or is it new also? If it's new then CPU could be faulty.

Yes it was previously on another mobo.

I don't think his CPU would be locked.I have an XP 1900+ that has the Palomino core and it isn't locked.

If it's locked it would be locked at 11.5 so that's not the problem.

Chapter 2
2-2 Setting Your CPU’s Performance:
Frequency Configuration:
If you install a CPU on this motherboard, you must set the [Front Side Bus
Frequency] JP25 according to your processor.
CPU Speed = Multiplier x FSB Frequency
You do not need to make voltage settings because this board will automatically
set your CPU voltage.

What position is the JP25 jumper set to?

its set to 133/166, its default position

Well I don't get it. The lowest multiplier on that board should be 6 and not 5.25.

What is your FSB settings at in the BIOS?

133

Allright i put back in my old athlon 2100+ and it detected it right away as a 2100 but the multiplier is set to 6.5 now. I must have one really shitty mobo.

Try a bios update, there are a couple which say they are for later cpu detection, although I would have thought any board with nforce2 chipset would support those processors.

Its wierd how it wont detect a 1800 but i put back in the 2100 and what do ya know it detects it.
