I have no clue what has happened but it has become extra slow in the past few days and is affecting my DL's and everything esle, I tried everything, Xp tweaks, get rid of extra files, have 10gigs free, but still its the same, i would appreciate any ones help! thank you

used virus/spyware checks?

had a look in task manager (ctrl+alt+del) to see any possible resource hogs?

i checked the taskmanager and the only thing that has a very high number in the cpu usage is the System idle process, i have Norton anti-virus on and have been getting numerous trojan checkers, any clues?

there could be probs with drivers or registry. Also try defragmenting the drive, because when you install/uninstall, copy/delete files a lot it fragments files and so system becomes slower.

is your hard disk getting full?
when was the last time you defragged your PC?

EDIT oh 10 gigs free, well that should be enough free to defrag :-)

So, have you checked for updated drivers then?
Maybe your busmaster drivers are corrupted.

the only thing that has a very high number in the cpu usage is the System idle process

that number is the % of your cpu thats not doing anything. mine is usually at 98% unless i do video encoding or play games.

You need to be more specific about when it becomes slow i.e. is it when you run a particular application or from start up?

have given you some really good suggestions
the more information you give us...the better we understand what
the problem could be.
example if it is a software problem:
try running Norton anti-virus and quarantine suspected files
if when you run defrag, it is still really slow
try running ad-aware and then spybot search and destroy
then try a program like diskeeper 7.0 and window washer 5

example if it is a hardware problem:
check your virtual memory settings/allowcations in the control panel
check the resolution on the graphic card, that it is not taking resources
from ram.
check if you have a really big hd(120 to 250 gigs), you will see performance slow
when you fall below 20 gigs.

Do I understand correctly that your hard drive is suddenly 100% full?
How full was it before?

Indeed, how is your hard drive running at 100%, and you have 10GB's free?

Bit confused here.

Oh btw, dont froget disc cleanup.

If nothing seems to works :frusty: there is only one way out.
Its time for backups............... <_<.So that u can achieve the same speed like u had earlier.

Use System Restore to go back to when your pc was running ok, the process will only take a few minutes to complete. This is the easiest solution :sorcerer:
