Hi people. Got a noob question for you all as I have never done this before and dont want to mess it up. Have read some advice on this board about it but most are directed at specific downloads.

I have just downloaded windows xp as a .exe file and want to make it into a bootable CD, so i can completely wipe my hard drive, insert the CD on the first run, install xp and go on from there. How do i go about doing this? Any advice would be great.

Secondly, what is the best way to wipe a hard drive. Obviously I want to start from scratch and dont want anything left on it.

Thanks again

Many XP downloads are in .iso format, even if it has .exe on the extension it could be actually an .iso. What you need to do is find out if your copy is an .iso, if so you can change the .exe extention to .iso and just burn it to cd as a cd image.

If not you will need to obtain the boot record and copy it as a bootable disk using a burning software.

As for wiping the disk, you can format it when you re-install windows.

Very nice they should pin that too.

And how to do the other Windows versions which require bootable floppies but it is dead easy to do.

Why do people always want stuff to be pinned?

If you have too many pinned topics then it would defeat the purpose of them being pinned.
