I had evidence eliminator. It stopped working and took me to a page that told me that my ip was loged and that because i had a fake keylog that it did not really remove any evidence. it told me that I was in trouble for having this program. should i be worried?

I wouldn't worry,
change your IP number (turn off modem for a minute and replug or ask your service provider to change your ip no.)
I use tracks eraser - no problems using crak (get version 4)

OH THANK GOD!! I was worried. I use DSL with a british provider, would ibe charged if I change my ip address, what changes would I have to make on my PC. I have a netgear, would I have to change that? I use a wireless modem I think. My bro set it up. would I have to remove that and plug it in again to change it?

plus.net is my isp, should I downlad the pro version of tracks eraser?
EDIT: Is changing an IP called static IP?

Yes - look for a crk first then download the correct version (once installed get updates to the plugins which erase history of desired programs)

I call my isp and they change my ip in a minute.

I use EE as well and when installing the agreement clearly states what you expirienced. As long as I won't update EE can't know I used a keygen, cause it won't connect to the internet (no permission in my firewall settings).

I'm currently using NTL as my ISP, and sometimes, unplugging the modem for 2 mins will usually change the IP Address. This method includes STB's (Set Top Boxes) as well. If this fails, there is another method...

Releasing An IP Address Using Windows XP (http://www.openband.net/pdf_files/TCP-IP_for_Windows_XP.pdf). This article is in PDF format so you can right click, save target as if you don't want it open online. Look for pages 7 onwards.

I use Win 98. Will taking out the modem work for Plus.net

Samurai
01-11-2004, 05:26 PM
Yes it should work. As long as you disconnect the modem from the mains, give it 2-3 mins, then switch it back on and give it time to get a signal, it should work. If not, try the PDF document I posted above.

This may sound funny, but I don't know what my modem is . I got a Linksys Wireless Network Access Point Model Wap11 and a Netgear DSL Modem Internet Gateway DG814. Are any of these the modem?

Just unplug them from the mains
As long as you disconnect the modem from the mains, give it 2-3 mins, then switch it back on

Both of them

you could also check what your current ip no. is and then check afterwards to see if its changed.

I put a post on a forum, they told me that I have to ask the ISP to change my ip, i am on adsl. However, i need a reason for a change, can someone tell me a good reason to give an ISP to change my ip?

Say that - a friend or you have a different laptop - but cant connect to the internet -(mummmble something about need to change the ip-if he tells you the to write in the ip(yours) tell him it doesnt work - he'll change it for you
also ask him if the ip will change if you unplug the modems

I change ip no like 3 times a day cause i share the adsl with roomies which have three different laptops - sometimes it dont work so i harras the isp. (we all have our internet protocol set to automatic detection cause we move around to different connections

Did you even read my earlier posts? I even posted a link to a document online that states how to change your IP Address in like 3 easy steps. Read.

Right

and
99shassan - seriously dont be afraid of your isp
1. you pay them - they therefore serve you
2.the people working the phone support dont give a shit cause they are dealing with simpler problems than yours. like where to put the lan cable.

so you will never be making a mistake.

Thanks for the help samurai but that document only works with an ip that won't work in changing the ip allocated by your IP, it just showed the ip that i am allocated on the lan. I tried to cange it anyway but it didn't work. Secondely my ISP is not mine but my brothers. What kinda proof would I need to change the IP.

This is taking along time lets get it over with.

First of all,
open your network settings, right clik local area conneection, mark internet protocol
clik on properties - is it marked to "obtain ip adress automatically"?

99shassan
01-11-2004, 06:34 PM
yeah, wait I have win 98, I dont have LAN settings, In Internet options>Connections>LAN settings>Automatically Detect settings

Would this count?

mate, you have a static ip, so plusnet need to change it...i do anyway, and im with them

just email, or open a ticket in the portal and say that oyu posted on a forum and someone has been messin about trying to hack you, for a laugh, they say but youre worried. can they change your ip?

if they say anything, just say, "ah well, ill have to change isp to change it then..." and see how quick they jump

good luck :D

It seems you dont know how to read and write pm's

Either just do what Vivitron said,
or
Call the support people-say you have connection problems
say you cant connect your girlfriends laptop ,nor your other friends-say its on automatic detection, windows 98
hell tell you either to turn of your modem as stated before or hell tell you type in a certain ip number this is not good, If they tell you to type in your old ip adress in their laptops- tell them that they dont want to cause of problems with constantly having to change their numbers when they get home or university where the autodetect works.

or hell change your ip number.

Make sure to Ask how you can manually change the ip number yourself when friends come with theyre laptops- without having to call-hopefully the answer is turn on and off modem.

plus ask them what do you do in Vivtrons scenario

just push- it takes them 1 second to change it
also take the time to ask them tons of annoying questions about things youve always wondered about.

Vivitron's reply sounds safer, I don't wanna phone them. how do you open a ticket? Plus, is there a charge?

Just call them it should be toll free.. Tell them someone tried to hack you and you want it changed...

This is fucking ridiculous.

What is obviously needed here, is for someone to do it for him.

Why are so many people like this? My neighbour asked me to change her inkjet carts yesterday - when the ink comes with instructions and the bloody printer came with a manual and a huge sheet with giant pictures showing you how to do it!

Why not take a look at the help pages on their website?
FFS can you even wipe your own arse? The Plusnet help portal is HERE (http://portal.plus.net)

dude, theyre not gonna do anything (the EE people) anyway
i got busted twice by admuncher,
(oh, and once by TDS :P   )
and thats all they do,
give ya a warning, tell ya they logged your ip, blah blah blah
maybe try using a proxy and changing the serial no.

Look, I know I don't have the patience of a saint (or Sharedholder - we are not worthy!) but you've gotta admit that there were soooo many suggestions what to do and you hadn't actually acted on any of them.

My neighbour (the one with a printer that still needs it's ink :)) is the manager of a care home - what is she going to do when a situation arises that the company she works for hasn't specifically trained her to cope with? I dread to think.

Really, people have to use some initiative sometimes.
Put a link to GOOGLE (http://www.google.com) on your links bar, use it to find out anything you're not sure of and two things will happen...
- you will feel a sense of achievement, and
- you will learn to use your initiative.
