man, i hate long ass explanations, but im at a loss, so,
ok, here it is, the best i can explain it
(using alcohol 120 1.4.3 build 410)
last night me and my bro was burnin some discs (bout 30 of em :P)
every disc was fine and fast until we tried to burn audioslave
now i knew this one was gonna take a while cause its scratched all to hell
(and maybe copy protected  )
it got to about 80% complete and did the usual (it bogged down from
maybe 30-40x write speed to .1x) no surprise there (i tried an image of this
one before so sort of knew what to expect)
but this was a 1 to 1 copy on the fly (we decided to risk a cd)
now after sitting at .1x speed for a while, it did its error thing, stopped,
and that was it, until i saw that windows wasnt reading the cd drive anymore
i mean not reading anything, looked in 'my computer' and the drive wasnt even listed
said ok, just reboot and windows will pick it up again, and it did, no prob
but now i cant burn at more than 16x, no matter what options i do/dont select
checked all the write speed settings, (drive and alcohol), all maxed out
the drive is still ok, so im figuring its alcohol
i could be wrong though, so if anyone else has run into this, plz let me know
and if i am wrong and its hardware, ill gladly pm a mod and have this
moved over to hardware world
thanks :)

Tried installing the drive's drivers? Or updating firmware?

nah dude, this is all oem shit
tried looking for my drive on-line (for drivers or whatever i could find)
all i could find was shit  (specs and crap)
besides, isnt windows xp supposed to automatically pick up drivers?
thought so, but again, could be wrong
the mp3 rip we did was after all this happened if i remember right,
and it went smooth there, thats why i didnt suspect the drive
well feck it, i got some excel work that just popped up so ill have to
figure this out later :(
ill do a search on firmware after to see of maybe that can give me a clue,
thanks bro :)

If you have a legit version of Alcohol i dont think you would have any probs...
ppl's ALOT of cracks out there and serials are released by the company's that make the software nough said

as far as the prob goes i would try to completley uninstal alcohol then restart...
then reinstall alcohol if you so desire

"i use it all the time with no probs" <--- some cracked progs are to set to cause probs after an amout of time (date or use) some after cirtain other critera is met...

Actually alcohol breaks down if you PATCH IT. If you use a serial, it should be ok.

Regarding the CD you want to copy, try copying the files into a folder on your desktop and burning the old-fashioned way. Some CD-RW's have problems copying CD's on the fly which do have scratches or other marks on the underside.

got one? :D

@samurai - alcohol does some amazing sh*t on the fly
30-40x speeds easy (unless it hits some major goofs on the disc)
