I want to upgrade my PC with a new GPU (my birtday is coming soon :D )
There are two solutions:

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (128MB DDR) & ATI RADEON 9200 SE (128MB DDR)

The GeForce card is more expensive (about $30-35 , than the ATI)

Is the GeForce card worth the money, or should I rather get a ATI ?

P.S.

My current GPU is "nVidia GeForce 2 MX/MX 400 (64MB)

 me to choose ...

both r the same. i used to have a geforce 5200, and they work pretty damn well. not sure bout the se part of the 9200. try getting the regular. usually the se is not as good as the original.

Depends on the brand. SE can mean Second Edition, which would be an improved edition, such as the G4MX440 SE, which is better than the regular MX440. The 5900SE, however, isn't as good as the 5900. About ATI.... well they are a mess as well, but their SE's are usually the "sorry-ass" editions lol :)

they're called "special" edition, but sorry ass works too. lol. compare the specs of a 9600 and a 9600se, and the 9600 is better, also a bit more expensive. in ur case, a reg 9200 can compare to a geforce 5200. a se is 9200 jr. dont' get it. in fact, if u want, get the 5200. i've had experience, and many others here have it now, or have had it. and most of them have had pretty good experiences

So why did you sell yours anyway? I found out that the best card they sell over here is a 5600, and haven't seen something more than a 9200 (se?) on a computer shop. I think I'm gonna wait until they bring the 5900 or I'm gonna ship it here (grrr 50$ shipping or something like that)

Thanx for the "sorry-ass" part, i didn't knew that normal edition are better than SE.
So, I gues it's better to invest a little bit more money and get a GeForce FX 5200 ;)

The better thing would be save up more and get a 5600 :)

How much does a 5600 cost ? and can you tell me the specs of a 5600 card ?

DWk

It's around 120-160 US dollars. However, the difference from the 5200 is a lot, so my first pick would be save up for a 5600 because it would be worth while more than the 5200.

ATI cards are most of the time faster than nVidia's... But the drivers are still a problem with the ATI cards... So it's better to buy proven good stuff, and nVidia can provide you that... :)

Excuse me..... faster? What do you mean a card is faster? So cards can run? Oh you mean like ATI's have NOS and nVidia's don't? How much HP does each have?

So ATI's would win in a Drag race?

i have an hightech ati radeon 9200se 128mb and im pretty happy, not done much gaming, its a new pc. and pretty busy at the mo, but it can run simpsons hit and run perfectly on default settings, and it looks pretty cheap, i got mine for around £37

edit: also i think there may have been a prob with the drivers that came with it or something, as the card crashed on my dad, but nothings happedned since i updated the drivers to the latest ones.

Yep... ATI cards have more HP than nVidia cards... But the ATI drivers are crappy, so you can't play all games, or with bugs, so you have to wait till they release a bug-fix. That's ATI biggest prob now. The hardware itself is exelent :D

I've never had problems with any of my ATi cards in any games, and gaming is the number one use of my PC. My 9500 even played MGS2 perfectly before they released the ATi patch.

I'm happy for you... But more than 7 million games had to wait 2 weeks before ATI release a bug-fix for Call Of Duty before they were able to play... :frusty:

I think the best would be if nVidia would colaborate with ATI.That would make a perfect harmony of speed & performance :D

I can almost see it:
nVidia + ATI = nVidi ATI-Force 9900 FX 512 MB RDRAM :D :D

I know , i know ... I'm crazy B)

WTF are you talking about? HP=HorsePower

Are you actually saying that an ATI card has more HORSEPOWER than an nVidia card?

@ Stylewarz: its the other way around

@ DWK: i agree with u

an interesting point to make: as resolutions get higher (with ALL games) fsaa and asf rates favor nVidia rather than ATI. Why? cuz nVidia has the horsies to pull the high rates off!

the core in the nVidia chips is not flawed: they just have more resources devoted to speed than to fsaa+asf

to add to the mystical-ness of life: 2xQ fsaa on the nVidia chips gives EXACTLY THE SAME OUTPUT as standard 4x! im surprised to see that they dont ude this method of ASF in their benchmarks

It's just a way to explain the power of the core... B)

uhh...thats freaking gay.

And I would get the 9600Pro over the 5600 anyday.

Geez, big dawg, don't you know yet that half of the people on this board have nothing going on upstairs? Most of them just want to start a flamefest. It's their only entertainment. Just ignore them. They know themselves that they are fools. That's why they always state exactly the opposite of the obvious.

"It's everybody else on the internet that is wrong. I am right...because..."

If you have ever noticed they never have any evidence.

Whereas, I provide, whenever I make a claim proof for my claim.

ATi is the current leader in the graphics card race. Just read what Anandtech, Kyle for [H]ardocp.com, and Tom's Hardware says. They all agree. :)

Edit: Big dawg, have you ever noticed that the ATi/Nvidia comparison is a non-issue on most forums? :01: Have you ever wondered why? Take a look at any quality forum (when I mean quality I mean that the majority of them know how to spell, can tell the difference between apples and oranges, and can piss straight). Take, for example, abxzone forums (http://www.abxzone.com) or neowin (http://www.neowin.net). Check out the hardware forums those places. I don't know why you waste so much of your time repeating yourself to complete nincompoops the obvious. You could be spending your time learning something new about hardware as opposed to debating the same things over and over again. That is not to say there is not any repetition in any other forums. You just don't run into the high quanity of dufuses as you do at the k-lite-forums. The only the reason why the dufuses stay here is because no other forum would stand for their BS. I like you big dawg; as well as some other members of this forum; however, for every very intelligent person here there is a person of immense idocy to cancel out their intelligence, thus making this forum at best mediocre for enhancing your hardware knowledge.

See ya, dawg. :)
