All the stuff for my new PC arrived yesterday, nearly finished getting it ready, and it should be running in an hour or two.

Read my sig for specs.

I'm leaving room below for benchmarks.

@VB: I didn't know the 64 bit Windows was out. I'm gonna try get hold of a copy ASAP.
Update on OS: Theres a build of Windows XP 64 Bit on Suprnova, but I'm not going to bother risking it.

My Q is this: wtf did u buy an aFX NOW!?!?!

theyre going 2 redo the pin structure of the processor + boards, so that means ur processor cant be upgraded to anything any higher!

wtf???

well, it was ur choice: itll only last u about 2 years. u wasted some good moolah there.....

meh, while ur at it, get the Longhorn BETA + windows Server 2003... more reliable!

ummm the last time i checked....you cant upgrade any proccessor to anything but higher clocked speed either

or do you mean the cpu socket for the board is gonna change, either way, that cpu should last him a couple of years. and by the time he upgrade, he prob want to get a new mobo too so....

Thats exactly what I was going to say.

EDIT: By the time I'll need an upgrade I'll be wanting a PCI express compliant mobo too, and they probably won't be making the FX series anymore, so it probably won't even matter.

i think you should name your comp the incredible hulk......lol j/k

since its a black case, you could spray paint it w/ some blue and red and named it spiderman.....that would be cool......yea, i have no life

Because he wanted to spend money. We advised him (well at least me) to buy AthlonXP...all the usual stuff. But he wanted tops. I was surprised, but I wouldave probably bought 2GB of RAM on my current computer if I had the money. RAM is important and we all know we get hogged a lot hehehe :D

The Athlon 64-FX requires registered DDR RAM. I got 2GB because with more RAM you nearly always see an improvement. Plus, I had a choice. 1GB extra RAM or a DVD RW.

It works

EDIT: The only problem is a clicky hard drive. But then again, who cares when you got 7.1 speakers...

The subwoofer rules. Bang up the bass and you can feel the air coming through it.

EDIT2: @VB: I'm running Windows XP Pro right now. I'll get hold of a copy of the 64-bit windows XP when it comes out.

Aquamark 3 and SiSoft Sandra on their way soon. The AIDA 32 benchmarks (memory read/write) came out as read just a few MB below the 64-FX they had posted which may be because I had a couple of background apps running, but the write came out as quite a bit higher.

I don't wanna be messing around with WC, this is my first built PC.

My choice on the processor.

The total cost was about £2000. Woulda been about £500 cheaper without the 19" TFT.

Oh yeah I mighta gone P4EE but the £200 or so price hike didn't justify the extra performance.

Hey Mad Cat. I am a little hesitant to believe you really own this computer. I would like to, but it is all too tempting to believe it is contrived as an attention getting scheme. I know it sounds crazy, but some people do such things for attention, even on internet forums. Yes they have no life. I would hate to categorize you as the latter.

If you are intelligent enough to assemble a computer, download Aquamark3 (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2105). Register with them. Then run the benchmark. It is free to run. You, having cash laying around, should register the full version to earn bragging rights. So far, in my book, you have none.

The benchmark analysis will display your complete system specs. Why don't you name the benchmark "proof," for fun.

If you think this is too hard and confusing, then I have proven my point regarding the intelligence of the members of this forum, as there is quite a long thread, linked below with several members of abxzone.com forums who somehow managed to figure it out.

Until then...

u should at least buy some games..not all of them but some
I do buy some. And I have bought loads in the past.

And I need a damn link to where I can just get 3dMark 2001 and 2003. I don't want any more lists of goddam mirrors.

A little jealous are we ? :P

I know i am :(

BTW, would a 64bit cpu run 32bit apps just as good as a 32bit cpu with exact same speed ??

I know that the 64bit processors are reverse compatible with 32bit apps im just curious.

Of course. But I would hate to be jealous of BS. Anyone can BS.

It takes someone with at least half a noodle to back up what they say with some evidence. That's my point about this board; half of you are FOS. The other half, well, I love ya! :D

I just like to call people on their s#*t. It's an old hobby of mine. It builds character.

Yea, already posted what I think on the other topic - go read it.

Anyway, I've got all the stats and I can compare them to others on the Aquamark site, but I just can't find what the hell I need to get a link to, so you people can see and believe me.

Better yet just click Prt Scr on your keyboard and go into paint and past it then save it to desktop then go to www.uploadit.org (http://www.uploadit.org) and upload it there then give us the url to the screen shot. ;)

Hey Mad Cat you just linked to my benchmark. If you did not notice, that is a Pentium 4 with a Radeon 9800 Pro.

Nope, that is not good enough. The score alone does not include the system spec, nor does it display the user name. Therefore it could be a ripped off screenshot from somewhere else on the internet. ;)

Obviously you cannot produce any proof whatsoever about the validity of your claim to the components of your computer.

Just like I thought.

NO, that's great Mad Cat!

Good start. However, you need get a full system spec as Triad advised. Take a screenshot of device manager with all pluses expanded. After you did this, and an Aquamark3 benchmark, I will believe you completely. You see, my point is to identify who is FOS here and who is not. That is it. Thats the safely-remove hardware icon. WinXP seems to like letting me disconnect my USB ADSL Modem.

I have a real crappy digicam, that hardly works, eats batteries and is probably broke now. The drivers never worked either.

I do have one of those nice little l'espion ones though. Crap picture quality, nice and small though.

Mad Cat, the reason I linked you to that thread is not to check out their system spec, but for their benchmark score. Did you see their AIDA32 and Sandra scores?

http://www.martinsawyer.com/DSCN5984.JPG

You should read the whole thread. Those guys are sharp with their computers. You might learn a thing or two from them.

I got nearly exactly the same on AIDA32 benchmarks to the FX51 spec already there. Quite a bit better in the write, but a little lower in the read. I had a few things going at the same time though. I'll do some tweaking and then try some more.

I'm nowhere near as advanced as those people. I'm not going to bother overclocking as yet though. Gonna get a couple more case fans at the weekend though.

A problem I have noticed: AIDA32 won't report temperatures, and Sandra reports them as both being @ 44 degrees C.

Recargers and rechargables are a better idea. I still don't like the idea, cables are just more reliable methinks.

I still don't know what exactly I have to link to. If you can search on Aquamark try "Mad Cat Mkii" (no quotes though).
go here (http://arc.aquamark3.com) and log in

then click on "view your submitted measurements in the ARC" and when your test comes up, click on "set this measurement to be public"

then click on "view" on the right hand side, and copy/paste the unique run id into this thread...

for instance, my run test would be:

http://arc.aquamark3.com/arc/arc_view.php?run=606576788

:)
Thats all I wanted from the start... :P

http://arc.aquamark3.com/arc/arc_view.php?run=1146857871 [/b][/quote]
Nice score. I am sure after you tweak your OS a bit you will get a much higher score. You see how nice that is?

Now we see your system spec analysis. :)

i'm very surprised that adam's (http://arc.aquamark3.com/arc/arc_view.php?run=811323606) system beats yours. he has a slight overclock on the graphics card as advantage but you do have 4 times as much ram as him

i suppose you/we will have to wait for optimised software to really see a difference... :)

I am sure the reason why my score is higher than his is because I have my OS stripped to the bone. I followed tweakhound guide (http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/xptweaks/supertweaks3.htm) and only have like 6 services running and 12 processes.

see this page (http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/xptweaks/supertweaks6.htm)

Oh, and 4th gen: any suggestions on good racing simulation games? I would really appreciate any advice you have. Happy new year! Man, I have known you for almost a year, and you have been one of the most helpful, kind, accurate folks on the board. Thanks for all your help so far! :)

Just read the stuff on this page. I find it amazing how someone needs to post (well at least he does so because someone asks him too) some "proof" of something he got. And if that will get you a good "reputation", that's just dumb.

I was laughing a load in this thread, you all doubted, he proved, and then you all kissed ass :P

i never doubted and i never kissed ass :)

i just prefer the aquamark link because you can actually see what overclocks there are (if any)

I was just getting tired of the BS'ers around here; I was tired of reading their associated garbage posts, so I thought it was about time somebody tidied up around here and called them on their shit. I suspected that a few were honest, but not all of them.

Note how simple it is to take a screenshot. It does not take very much intelligence, you see. Also note how elaborate some member's avatars are as well (these folks obviously know how to use the internet, use benchmarking software utilities, upload screenshots).

But when it comes down to the wire, and some of these bufoons are called to defend their claim--(I am sorry you guys, it has nothing to do with repuations; it has to do with the mere fact that some people actually contrive total bullshit to spam on this forum; they fabricate systems they do not own, and they think we are as dumb as they are)--they realize they can't prove a lie. So the real issue is accountability. I personally respect people who know the value of proof. It is present in mathematics and physics more than any other field simply because the laws of nature are built upon several premises which must be stated before making any claim. Such as 1 is greater than zero, and if x is greater than 1, then x plus one is greater than one plus zero.

This is, as far as I know, a hardware forum, which is supposed to be a place to discuss hardware. Now, if we have a forum where the members somehow think that zero is greater than one, what kind of discussions do you anticipate we would have?

I think I have made my point.

QED. :)

On binary, they just indicate on or off

And that's hardware-related ;)

I don't have any problem with you wanting me to prove it really, I'm just annoyed that you kept on saying it after I requested how to post an Aquamark link over and over.

DWk, wouldn't binary be software really?

I thought you would enjoy the Aquamark3 ARC. Is it not nice?

I said hardware-related. And if you don't know, you use binary in electronics ;)

and if you don't believe me...that IS hardware

No, its just that I didn't know exactly where to go into it to find a link exactly to my benchmark.

Binary is the method by which the processor processes data.........

Who thinks that isnt hardware?
