for the price of the combo, u could probably get a dvd-rom and a vd-rw drive for cheaper, then less wear on each of them, and if one breaks, less cost to replace/

i know i was just saying that the 2 would be cheaper, and probably better.

52x cd-rw £20 (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=51258)

16x Dvd-Rom £18 (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=29463)

total about £40

Combo drive £35 (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=54591)

on further inspection, about the same.

If you was thinking about getting a combo drive, & haven't got a DVD R/RW, then buy that instead so you could burn CD & DVD's but also view DVD's & CD's.

It will cost a bit more for it, if you get a branded name you will look around £90+, if not fussed about make you could get it hell of a lot cheaper. Now only if i could remember where i saw the item dead cheap :(

heh.. theres a coincidence... I had a LG 8X Burner too.
I just upgraded it to a MSI 48X Combo drive.

The only thing i dont like about my MSI is the fact that its not region free and theres no firmware hack for it yet.

And the Software bundle is a bit outdated... Nero 5 and PowerDVD 5

But it was very reasonably priced and does all I need, so I can't bitch too hard.

Just discovered theres a MSI 52X version out now. Check it out (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/optical_devices/dvs/pro_dvs_detail.php?kind=5&CHIP=59&NAME=COMBO)

If you liked your LG...

Then why not get an LG combo drive?

Or even a DVD burner: http://us.lge.com/images/products/models/gsa4040b_m.jpg (http://us.lge.com/products/models/GSA4040BI.html)

I'm surprised...both Lite-On and Plextor have very good reps and get positive reviews.
I have a Lite-On CD-RW and it's been very reliable ( no coasters yet!).

it would help if u said were u lived, unless ur interested in a dvd burner just get a cd burner, or combo driver, or a dvd darive and a cdwriter, since ur old cdrom is broken.
