hey, just wonder? i always hear stuff about case temps, but nobody ever says a lot about CPU temps
whats a reasonable CPU temp?? mine is about 42-45, and my case temps are 26-28
That good?

_John_Lennon_
01-16-2004, 10:30 PM
Those are perfectly fine temps.

kaiweiler
01-16-2004, 11:27 PM
awesome thanks
whats the limit? i have no water cooling or anything and i'm gonna OC a bit more, so how high can my temps go before i start worryin?

You need to start worrying when the temp goes over 70.

what do you mean noone list CPU temps? we all list CPU temps! lol...but yeah your temps are fine.

Virtualbody1234

I wouldn't let it get as high as 70C.

james_bond_rulez
01-17-2004, 12:37 AM
the cpu die will start to melt at 85C degrees for amd cpus so if ur temp get over 80 it's time to freak out and pull that plug off ur computer

but that'll never happen if u properly install heatsink and a fan on it.

kaiweiler
01-17-2004, 12:50 AM
okay, so 70-85 is the temp i have to worry about, what is recommended? 45-50? right now mine is only 39 CPU, 24 case
so whats recommended temps?

james_bond_rulez
01-17-2004, 12:53 AM
there is no "recommended" per se

really depends on ur room environment, if ur room is warm and has little ventilation then ur temps are gonna be high

if you put it next to an open windows it gonna be low

also depends on ur computer design, if ur computer has good air flow and at least 1 system fan at the back helping the psu to expel excess heat ur doing ok

kaiweiler
01-17-2004, 12:57 AM
okay i should be fine then as my comp has 5 fans, and my case has sife and top vents as well...

Thanks everyone

full towers have much more room for air flow inside the case. and that means lower temps. i have a mid tower, and even though all my cables are rounded, the air flow is still small compared to the full towers. plus i don't avhe any fans in the front. i need to put some there

Maybe they dont.

Oh wait, correction there,

I KNOW THEY DONT.

5 Case fans I guess is just keeping the temp cooler, but you temps will rise the more you overclock.

Oh and btw, your 'full load' isnt full load.

Loop 3d Mark, or Aquamark for 8 hours, and thats full load.

And as for temp range, I myself would start to worry if your load temps get above 60C. Its not going to damage it only going that high, but it would compel me to get better cooling. Actually it did, and thats why I have my VOlcano 11+, until August when I start my evaporative watercooling setup.

sorry my mistake ;)
and all those temps for recommendations seem to be fairly high so i dont think i have to worry to much
untill i get my 9600XT, then it may be a bit warmer, but i guess that comes with a fan or heatsink or whatever you call it as well :)
so i'm good and cool! :01:

Yeah, your 9600XT will have a fan on it, and your 5 case fans will carry out the hot air it puts out rather easily.

Although I would suggest buying a 9800 regular, and softmodding/overclocking to a 9800Pro

the 9600 xt isn't that good. sped the $ to get a 9800 non pro or a 9700pro

hmm the thing is that I can get an ATI Radeon 9600XT for 250 canadian
and the 9800 regular is probably a lot more then that, if anyone knows the price, i'd like to know though
I know the 9800se is 219 or so for a saphire one
and the pro is 400 for the saphire or 450 for ATI radeon
so im not sure how much the regular is? i havnt seen em around to much

Kai

_John_Lennon_
01-17-2004, 02:26 AM
Hmm, I was just googling around, and why am I not seeing any regular 9800's?

Are there just SE's, and Pros, and XTs? No Non Pros for the 9800's? Well thats news to me.

kaiweiler
01-17-2004, 02:28 AM
don't worry john lennon, i did do a google before posting, and thats all i came up with as well
i never realised that they didnt make a regular 9800
but i hear talk all the time of people softmodding a regular to a pro, well if theres no regular what are they talkin about?! maybe going from se to pro?

oh and the 9600XT comes with HL2 which is nice cuz i would end up buying it anyway

You know, thats exactly what I was freaking thinking.

Maybe their are talking about a 9800Pro to XT mod?

But anyway, if you can find a 9700Pro, or a 9500Pro for less than the 9600XT, then dont go for the 9600.

4-Some 9500 Non Pros (ones with L shaped memory usually) can be overclocked and softmodded to show up as a 9700Pro.
3-9500Pro's can be easily overclocked to 9700Pro stats.
2-9700 Non pros (im pretty sure they existed.) are good overclockers.)
1-9700 Pros are excellant as well.

kaiweiler
01-17-2004, 02:37 AM
yeah i was originally going for the 9500 pro, but they are extremely hard to find in canada!

Mr. Elmo

i remeber sawing one on auction on ebay and the seller will ship to canada.

MSI FX5900-SP-VTD256, 256MB DDR, DVI/VIVO/TV-Out/Video-In Retail, 2YR - 464

Well that's 256DDR, not 128

This one looks good though

MSI FX5700-TD128 128M DDR DUAL (TV/DVI) Retail Box, 2YR

Oh by the way, MSI cards are usually a little more expensive than other cards. I use MSI though, love it :)

What matters is HOW it works.

if it's money ur worried about and u want decent/good performance. go with a 9700 pro. but if u can wait and u want the best. wait another 4 months and get a 9900 pro. u'll own!!!

Hey well I'm getting the HIS 9600XT it's crazy shite. it's got faster clock speeds. and different heatsink etc... lil bit more cash but a huge performance increase.

replying to CPU temps. lol.

funny how this started out as cpu temps.

anyhoo, i was 100% going to get a GeXcube Radeon 9600XT LV 256MB for $324 NZ ($191 us dollars), but after reading all those comments i dont know what to get,

who thinks the GeXcube Radeon 9600XT LV 256MB will be sweet with my specs?

Definately. I just read the review. Are you getting the turbo?

NICE:

Notice the extra cooling available on both sides of the ram.
