If your just starting out then you will find Frontpage the easier of the two to use, but Dreamweaver MX is ultimately the daddy for Web Design (especially if you wanna make it interactive/dynamic), easy to use once you have a good understanding of the whole process. I personally prefer Dreamweaver MX, total control over every line of code, and each language ( html, asp, java) used is a different colour too.

Edit: You should also give XARA WebStyle a go....does it all for you. (If your a lazy bugger) :)

I use a combination of both, that way save a lot of time. The new frontpage has some good features and worth the download.

agree ... dreamweaver is the best

if you want to use frontpage, remember, that the webserver needs a frontpage-extension. so normally this isn't a problem nowadays.

and for alternative: i think adobe golive is not so bad B)

Depends on whether you want to write HTML code or do it visually....

I, being a webdesigner, prefer to use several programs to do the trick:

Frontpage 2003
AceHTML 5 Pro
Editplus 2.11
Notepad

i think i will have a stick at dreamweaver mx.Also for the graphics side of it Would Fireworks do the job or would it be best to go for Photoshop? Also would it be a good idea if i made my site vitrtally only using Fireworks (or Photosho) because i seen some of the templates made in these programs and they look quite cool B)
Many thanks
