do it from within edonkey.
well, I don't know how, as edonkey sux and I use eMule...
but just try right-clicking a download in your Transfers screen and look in the context menu.

perhaps u should try this instead
http://edwatch.cjb.net/

bcos of the nature of how edonkey stores the incomplete downloads, it's very hard for the videolan to preview it straight on. the prog above will make it easier for videolan (and avipreview) to choose a part of ur download (for previewing, of coz).

have fun :D

plz read this carefully...
http://ddv.nerim.net/software/edwatch/content.html#install

u must tell eDwatch where ur videolan is located before it'll work...and if u wanna preview avi files...u must get AviPreview prog and do the same as well.

there's no guarantee u'll be able to preview the movie, but at least u get some pics (still moments) of the movie.

And if anyone has the AviPreview prgram, or a link, please let me know as the website that this was on is no longer valid, and can not find the program anywhere.

Never mind - found it on KLite
