Slow Downloads

When using mIRC i get downloads that are much slower then.. say... my downlaods off IE. Why is this? is there a good port i can use to make them go fast?

same normal thing i ask for everyone .. behind NAT/Firewall ? need to forward ports on ur router ?
have u tried more than one bot ? more than one server ?
