Damn! Infected again! Just to let you guys know it's out there and for Kazaa users only! Get virus software now! Go to www.symantec.com and have your computer scanned for free! Believe you may be spreading it and not even know it. I was just scoping out some outlaw star pics and what I thought was a screen saver, the .exe file had this virus! Beware!

Scan everything you download before running any type of executable.

yeah I got the w32.help.handy thing too. Norton Antivirus 2003 recognized it immediately and deleted the file for me :)
The best thing you can do is enable real-time file protection (NAV: AutoProtection) so that you will know you have a virus immediately. The virus will have no chance to do anything this way. Always keep your virus definitions up-to-date!

Yip, keep auto protection on constantly, you usually only need to d'load for less than a minute and NAV will pick it up and either fix it or delete it.

I don't know what it does, im lucky i've never had to find out, but if you're using Kazaa without Virus software you're not only endangering your own pc but other peples that d'load from you!

I never get 'viruses' anymore thanks to regular scanning of all downloads.

Viruses have become a real problem as of late (can you say Klez?). You should always be using virus scanning software on your machine, and its important to keep the virus definitions updated. Most programs will do this for you, behind the scenes. Stop what you are doing, put down the twinkie, and order up Norton A/V now. If you aren't running this software, you risk spreading these viruses all over the internet.--

i like that virus , it will not jump from directory to directory, it only infect's .com, .exe, .bat, .cmd, in the CURRENT directory, it is harmless!

Has anyone tried AVG antivirus???
I've been Using it For a Couple Years now and it Hasn't let me down yet and The definitions are updated often.

No Money, No Ads (except for during initial registration), No Spyware, No Guilt :D (as if we have any) :D

try Avg Antivirus (http://www.Grisoft.com) If you want but they will need a valid E-mail to send you a reg code

If I remember correctly, one of these little suckers is a trojan! It may be one of the other ones running around on kazaa! Go to http://search.symantec.com/custom/us/query.html
and type "kazaa" and you'll find out just how many viruses are out there just for kazaa! Protect yourself! Get NAV 2003 soon! I use it and it really works!

Hello,
This is my first post so sorry if this subject has already been discussed. Is it at all possible to do something about the W32 helphandy virus that is specific to Kazaa. Norton A/V finds and kills it, but it must mean that a lot of Kazaa/kazaalite users are sufficiently nieve/ braindead not to to have good Anti-virus software installed. As I have learned to my cost even with good A/V you can still end up deeply in the shit, with virus infections from Kazaa. In all honesty I do not use Kazaalite unless I really have too, having to wipe the whole computer including the MBR just because you have downloaded an infected file is a pain in the ass. If the majority of the users could get their act together with Anti-virus protection then the problem would virtually solve itself.

As your concern is to other users it's nice to hear but some people are just to stupid not to use AV software or not updating it in time. Too bad but there's nothing you can do about it.
As to your own, just make sure you got an up to date scanner an have fun searching p2p programs.
You'd be pretty save then. B)

i have two diff a/v programs AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition (http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_downl.htm#FREE) and AntiVir Personal Edition (http://www.free-av.com/) ...... these are two good free programs, i quarantine with avg and antivir then repairs the files, just i have to do i restart in between and avg moved some explorer neede file, so that when i started up it told me:
mistake or damage in explorer
you must reinstall windows
a/v guards don't always do their job properly and i hate norton and mcaffee
btw i had that exact virus, check file names for names that go something like A0+7random#'s that's always the virus. some people are to stupid to change the viruses file name, which you can see on kazaa, not the front name displayed, but the last one.

First off....if you fileshare without A/V...or surf the net period w/o...You are asking for it.....The files we share...exchange...whatever you would like to call it...is a Great thing in my opinion, but do NOT skimp on the Anti-Virus...
DO NOT USE ANYTHING OTHER THAN NORTON....and keep it up to date......Free anti-Virus? PLEASE!!!!! To date I have recieved W32.Pinfi and W32Kwbot.D.Worm in addition to this usual one you mention here.......

It's 10x the virus risk to use Outlook/Outlook Express for your emails (and have lots of friends that email you regularly) than using Kazaa Lite++.

If you download a virus on Kazaa Lite++, you still have to run it before you're in trouble.

Outlook can conveniently run the viruses for you -- and secretly too, so you need not worry about where Microsoft wants to take you today!

I know that it can't be stressed enough about scanning for viruses, but how many of the users even realise they have a virus unless it adversly affects the OS and they start getting errors? Some worms and viruses aren't malicious and are just a pain in the butt for their replicating properties. And if you do pick up a virus from someone you downloaded from, message them and tell them which file it was that was infected, hopefully they will stop sharing it.

I would never use a free anti virus program as there is such thing as a free lunch. I do however use Mcafee which I downloaded on k-lite and its great.
Far superior to norton. I've not had a virus affect me in 8 months since I've had it. I used norton for years and still managed to get infected, norton is like a torn condom. I would recomend an online virus scan called Housecall, at least I think thats the name, I've not used it in 8 months.
I'd avoid free software from web sites though.

I once downloaded a virus on k-lite and sent a message to the sharer but was told to fuck off. Its a pity that a big bolt of electrictity could not be sent to such people.

I don't know about Norton, but Mcafee Virus scan V7.0 caught W32/Hllp.Hantaner, and w#@.hllp.handy.Instead of deleting them it managed to clean both files.

 The assholes writing these things should die a slow torturous death
